Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg Oncology

Job Overview\n

The Med Surg Oncology Unit is seeking experienced Registered Nurses to provide high-quality patient care to medically complex hematology and oncology patients. The role involves managing patient treatments, facilitating communication with interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring comprehensive patient and family education.

Unit Information\n

• Unit Type: Medical Surgical
\n
• Unit Capacity: 6S - 16 inpatient oncology beds; 7S - 12 inpatient oncology beds
\n
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3 for patients receiving chemotherapy or bone marrow transplant; 1:4-5 for regular oncology patients; 1:4-6 during nights
\n

Shift Information\n

\n
• Shift Type: Day/Night Rotation
\n
• Shift Length: 12 hours
\n
• Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday
\n

Responsibilities\n

\n
• Perform head-to-toe assessments on patients.
\n
• Administer medications and blood products as prescribed.
\n
• Manage symptom and side effect treatment.
\n
• Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team regarding patient care plans.
\n
• Educate patients and their families on treatment processes.
\n
• Float to other med-surg units and locations as needed within the region.
\n

Qualifications\n

\n
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a large hospital setting (250+ beds).
\n
• Experience in a busy level 1 trauma center preferred.
\n
• Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA.
\n
• Current North Dakota RN License or Compact RN License.
\n
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.
\n
• Travel nursing experience is highly preferred.
\n
• Inpatient oncology experience is preferred; hematology and bone marrow transplant experience is a bonus.
\n

Training and Orientation\n

New staff will undergo 8 hours of classroom training followed by 24-36 hours of unit-specific training to ensure readiness to deliver care in this specialized setting.

Dress Code\n

All staff are required to wear navy blue scrubs during their shifts.

\n
