Responsibilities:
PERFORMS PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES TO INCLUDE ALL FORMS OF RESPIRATORY THERAPY, NON-INVASIVE CARDIOLOGY, AND OTHER ASSIGNED DUTIES UTILIZING APPLICABLE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES.ulliInterprets and executes physician orders/liliDemonstrates the ability to individualize therapy to meet the patient's need/liliDemonstrates the ability to anticipate the patient needs/liliDemonstrates the ability to calculate medication dosages/liliPerforms patient education/liliPerforms all duties in an efficient and timely manner/liliNotify leader of respiratory care, nursing supervisor, or unit leader of any inappropriate patient care issues/liliDocuments all medication and patient care errors/liliUses protective equipment appropriately/liliPerforms intubations and change tracheostomy tubes as assigned/liliPractices good body mechanics, getting assistance as needed to protect patient and own safety/liliRemains alert and responsive to all alarms/call lights/liliFollows proper hand washing and infection control between patients and procedures/liliPerforms testing in a manner that ensures accurate results./liliMaintains a clean work area, checks and stocks supplies in their specific area./liliPerforms oxygen rounds/liliResponds to all pages and requests in a timely manner/liliPerforms home care instructions and arrange for home oxygen, nebulizer, and/or suction equipment/liliResponds to emergency situations, RRT calls and codes immediately/liliRemains calm and effective in emergency and/or stressful situations/liliEnsures patient safety in the hospital environment by following policy/procedures and adhering to National Patient Safety Goals/liliPossesses knowledge and skills necessary to obtain adequate lab specimens for testing./liliPerforms patient bedside lab testing (ABGs) and associated quality control in compliance with medical provider’s orders and hospital lab procedures/policies./li/ulPERFORMS VENTILATOR MANAGEMENT AND MAINTENANCEulliMaintains knowledgeable of all modes of ventilation and a weaning modalities/liliResponds promptly to urgent needs/liliUses protective equipment appropriately/liliParticipates in patient rounds with physicians if assigned/liliPerforms ventilator checks every 2 hours and PRN/liliSets appropriate ventilator alarms within recommended parameters/liliEducates students and other health professionals about ventilator functions/liliDocuments ventilator settings and patient information accurately/liliActs as patient advocate/liliPractices appropriate patient assessment skills to evaluate patient needs/liliContacts physicians to improve patient care/liliContacts physicians concerning ventilator settings/liliCollaborates with appropriate healthcare worker concerning patient care issues/liliSets-up, verifies proper function, operates, and monitors ventilators, BIPAP and CPAP/li/ulMAINTAINS ACCURATE DOCUMENTATION AND ACCURATE COMPUTER ENTRYulliCompletes documentation of all therapy, ventilator, and oxygen/liliCompletes documentation on all internal forms/liliDocuments complete and accurate charge entry daily/liliCompletes accurate information on all ECGs/liliPerforms editing of ECGs accurately when assigned/liliDocuments on all diagnostic tests/li/ulASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS/HER ONGOING PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENTulliLearns the functions of all new equipment/liliLearns new procedures/liliKnowledgeable of departmental policies and procedures/liliCompletes all mandatory education within the stated timeframe/liliAttends educational offerings to validate skills/liliMaintain current knowledge of all equipment/liliMaintain current license/liliMaintain current credentials/liliActs as a resource person for others/liliParticipates in clinical instruction of students and other healthcare workers/li/ul

pCertifications:/ppNeonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 1 year - American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP);/ppAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA);/ppBasic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA);/ppRegistered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC);/ppLicensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)/pp /ppEducation:/ppAssociate's Degree: Respiratory Therapy; Certificate of Completion: Respiratory Therapy/pp /ppWork Experience: Respiratory therapy/p

Salary Range:
The compensation range for this position is $29.78per hour - $51.22per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
