Travel RN – Labor & Delivery (Nights)

Join a busy Labor & Delivery team providing compassionate, evidence-based care to mothers, newborns, and families in a high-acuity hospital setting. This 13-week travel assignment is ideal for an experienced L&D RN who is confident managing the full continuum of obstetrical care, including labor, delivery, postpartum, and cesarean sections.

 

Assignment Details

• Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery
• Shift: 12-Hour Nights
• Contract Length: 13 Weeks  
• Schedule: 36 hours per week
• Local Travelers: Not accepted (must live more than 50 miles from the facility) 

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care throughout the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn care continuum.
• Perform maternal and fetal assessments, monitor fetal heart tracings, and respond to changes in patient condition.
• Circulate C-sections and assist during deliveries (scrubbing experience preferred).
• Administer medications, including magnesium sulfate, while following evidence-based practice.
• Educate patients and families on labor, delivery, breastfeeding, newborn care, discharge planning, and postpartum recovery.
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
• Respond to obstetric emergencies, perform maternal and neonatal stabilization, and advocate for patient safety.
• Document patient care accurately using Epic and Perinatal Centricity (QS) when applicable. 

Requirements

• Active RN license (or Compact License)
• Minimum 1-2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience
• Hospital experience required
• Experience with:
  • Antepartum
  • Intrapartum
  • Postpartum
  • Cesarean Sections
  • Magnesium Sulfate Administration
• BLS, ACLS, and NRP required
• Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification preferred
• C-EFM certification strongly preferred
• Dysrhythmia Exam required
• Epic and Perinatal Centricity (QS) experience preferred
• Ability to circulate C-sections required
• Ability to scrub/assist with deliveries preferred 

Unit Details

• 12-bed Labor & Delivery unit
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1–2 (based on patient acuity and staffing)
• High-acuity patient population, including:
  • High-risk pregnancies
  • Language barriers
  • Substance use disorders
  • Chronic medical conditions affecting pregnancy
• Equipment includes:
  • GE fetal monitors
  • Warmers
  • Pulse oximetry
  • Blood glucose monitoring equipment
• May be required to float within the New Life Center or to other Labor & Delivery units in the Richmond area.
