\n \nPACU RN Assignment Summary Unit Overview Department: PACU (Perioperative Care – Floor 2) Beds: 14 total 3 PACU bays 11 interchangeable bays for pre-op, same-day discharge, and Endoscopy Assignment Areas: Pre-op PACU (Phase I & Phase II) Pre-Endoscopy Post-Endoscopy Patient Care Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Follows ASPAN guidelines Common Surgical Cases: Orthopedics (total joints, sports medicine, trauma) General surgery Gynecology C-sections Endoscopy Occasional plastics and neuro/spine Pediatric orthopedic trauma and dental cases Required Qualifications Certifications: BLS ACLS PALS Experience: Phase I PACU experience required Strong general surgical recovery experience Preferred: 2 years PACU experience May consider: 1 year PACU with extensive inpatient RN experience First-time travelers Limited Endoscopy experience No C-section recovery experience EMR: Epic (prior Epic experience required) Staffing & Support Charge nurse and ANM available Monday–Friday Charge nurse usually without patient assignment 2 CNAs Monday–Friday RNs are expected to assist with room turnover and daily unit duties Respiratory Therapy available as needed RNs interpret cardiac rhythms/telemetry strips ICU/High Acuity No ICU at the facility Patients requiring higher level of care remain in OR/PACU with anesthesia until transfer Schedule & Call Shift Lengths: Primarily 8- or 10-hour shifts Start Times: Between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM 12-hour shifts: Rare Call Requirements 5–6 call shifts per month Weeknight Call: 6:00 PM–7:00 AM Weekend Call: Friday 6:00 PM through Monday 7:00 AM (rotating) Holiday Call: May be assigned if a holiday falls during the contract Response Time: 30 minutes (must remain within 30 minutes of the hospital while on call) Floating Expected to work in: Pre-op PACU (Phase I & II) Pre-Endoscopy Post-Endoscopy This is considered part of the normal assignment, not floating. Orientation 3–5 shifts Assigned a preceptor Includes unit-specific workflow and system values Dress Code Hospital-provided scrubs Facility Requirements 50-mile radius rule applies.
