within the scope of competency, considering age related needs of the patient as  prescribed by physician/health care professionals) following established protocols, policies and procedures./li liAssist medical personnel with special procedures, minor surgical procedures and/or diagnostic exams./li liAssess and monitor patients condition and notify physician/health care professional for disposition./li liPrepare and administer medications as directed by physician order following established protocols./li liMaintain equipment and supplies./li liIdentify and arrange for equipment needing repair./li liApply principles of aseptic technique and infection control as directed by the Infection Control Manual./li liMonitor patient flow and assign/direct other ancillary personnel as needed./li liProvide medical information and education to patients, following established protocols and guidelines./li liDocument pertinent patient information, assessment and nursing procedures following established protocols./li liMaintain patient confidentiality./li liPerform other duties as directed./li liPatient/Care Procedures: Explain purpose and process of examinations, tests and medical procedures to patients, following established guidelines./li liInstruct patients on general health and basic self care procedures./li liReview, explain and clarify physician orders with patient./li liInstruct patient in use of home equipment./li liAdminister patient first aid./li liApply basic orthopedic devices, as ordered by physician./li liApply and remove dressings./li liExecute treatments such as urinary catheterization, bladder irrigations, suction procedures and throat irrigations./li liFollow standard infection control procedures./li liAdminister enemas./li liInitiate emergency procedures (including basic CPR) and provide emergency patient treatments./li liLift patients./li liMonitor patient vital signs./li liMonitor patients for bleeding./li liObserve machine monitors./li liAdminister inhalation therapy./li liParticipate in development of nursing care plans./li liPerform surgical preps./li liPrepare and position patients for procedures./li liPrepare patients for physical examinations./li liProvide therapeutic care as ordered by physician./li liRinse and clean instruments and equipment./li liSterilize instruments and equipment./li liArrange for equipment repair and maintenance./li liSterilize instruments and equipment./li liArrange for equipment repair and maintenance./li liMaintain clean work area./li liMonitor supply of oxygen and gas tanks./li liComplete laboratory, radiology requisitions and specialized test forms./li liNotify appropriate personnel of abnormal lab test results./li liAnswer member inquires./li liObserve patient condition for reactions during and after procedures./li liRemove sutures following established protocols./li liRespond to Code Blues./li liTake and record patient vital signs, height, weight, etc./li liObtain specimens from patients (urine, stool, etc.)./li liPerform venipuncture and finger sticks to obtain blood samples./li liPrepare specimens and specimens for lab analysis./li liPerform urine tests (tablet or dipstick.)/li liPerform vision screening using Snellen chart./li liPerform routine diagnostic tests, following established protocols./li liPerform skin tests./li liAssist as member of surgical team./li liAssist physicians with endotrachael intubations./li liAssists physician in obtaining tissue specimens and biopsies./li liAssist with proctological procedures (i.e. Sigmoidoscopies.)/li liRestrain or support patients during procedures./li liPerform EKGs (electrocardiograms.)/li liAssist patients with ambulation and exercises, following established protocols./li liAdminister topical or aerosol medication as ordered./li liAdminister medications as prescribed, within scope of practice./li liTransportation: Transport patients to/from designated areas./li liRoute specimens to laboratory./li liTransport laboratory specimens, medical records, laboratory supplies and materials./li liTransport office supplies and materials, patient related supplies and materials./li liTransport equipment, and procedures trays./li liAdministrative/Clerical/Record Keeping:  Request charts/medical records./li liSchedule, cancel and reschedule patient appointments./li liInitiate follow up appointments with patients./li liCheck in patients/members./li liPrepare outgoing mail./li liLocate personnel by paging system or beeper./li liProvide patient information to family members, following patient confidentiality guidelines./li liRecord and send Faxs./li liScreen patient calls and take messages for providers./li liMaintain department logs./li liMaintain and update user manuals./li liMonitor and maintain protocol manuals./li liRespond to requests for information./li liOrder medical supplies and equipment./li liReceive, store and distribute materials and supplies./li liReplenish linen./li liAdjust work schedules and/or reassign personnel as directed./li liServe as resource to coworkers by answering procedure questions and assisting in problem
