UPMC Williamsport is seeking a skilled and compassionate Casual Diagnostic Technologist to join our imaging team. This is a great opportunity for technologists looking for flexibility while still making a meaningful impact in patient care.

  • Casual requirement: Minimum of 32 hours per month

  • Shifts: Scheduled based on department needs
  • \n
  • Weekend rotation: As scheduled

  • Holidays: Minimum of 2 holidays per year

\n About the Role\n

In this role, you will perform a variety of diagnostic imaging procedures while working independently in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You’ll utilize your technical expertise and clinical judgment to deliver high-quality imaging while ensuring a positive patient experience.

\n Key Responsibilities\n
    \n
  • Verify patient identity using two identifiers and follow universal protocol standards
  • \n
  • Review physician orders and patient history to ensure accurate and appropriate imaging
  • \n
  • Perform diagnostic radiography procedures independently using established protocols
  • \n
  • Safely operate imaging equipment to capture, analyze, and document high-quality images
  • \n
  • Administer oral (PO) and rectal contrast in accordance with physician orders and department policy
  • \n
  • Ensure all exams are properly documented, coded, and tracked in RIS and archived in ISITE
  • \n
  • Accurately enter charges for procedures performed
  • \n
  • Communicate clearly with patients, explaining procedures to ensure comfort and cooperation
  • \n
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to support efficient patient care
  • \n
  • Use independent judgment to adjust imaging techniques for optimal diagnostic outcomes

Education:

\n
    \n
  • Graduate of an ARRT-approved School of Radiologic Technology, or
  • \n
  • Verification of program completion with a scheduled graduation date
  • \n
  • Candidates hired prior to graduation will work under indirect supervision of an ARRT-certified Diagnostic Technologist until degree verification is received
  • \n
  • Technologists may not work in an outpatient setting until ARRT certification is obtained
  • \n
\n Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:\n
    \n
  • ARRT Registry Eligible (Radiologic Technologist)\n
      \n
    • Must obtain ARRT Radiography certification within 6 months of hire (effective January 1, 2025)
    • \n
    • Technologists hired prior to January 1, 2025 must obtain certification within 12 months of hire/transfer
    • \n
  • \n
  • Temporary Permit (if applicable):\n
      \n
    • May practice under a temporary permit with direct supervision of a licensed Radiologic Technologist
    • \n
    • Must obtain ARRT certification within 180 days of permit issuance
    • \n
    • Temporary permits expire:\n
        \n
      • 180 days from issuance,
      • \n
      • Upon notice of license denial, or
      • \n
      • 10 days after notification of exam failure (whichever occurs first)
      • \n
    • \n
  • \n
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR Certification\n
      \n
    • Must be completed within 30 days of hire
    • \n
    • Certification must meet American Heart Association (AHA) standards (including skills demonstration)
    • \n
  • \n
  • Pennsylvania Clearances (with renewal):\n
      \n
    • Act 31 – Child Abuse Reporting
    • \n
    • Act 33 – Child Abuse Clearance
    • \n
    • Act 34 – Criminal Background Check
    • \n
    • Act 73 – FBI Clearance
    • \n
  • \n
\n Additional State Requirement (New York Only):\n
    \n
  • If working in a New York facility:\n
      \n
    • Must hold ARRT or NMTCB certification
    • \n
    • Must be licensed through the New York State Department of Health
    • \n
  • \n
