h2About the Department/h2ppUnder the direction of the Utilities Supervisor, work to maintain and operate the Borough's water and wastewater facilities. In this position employees are expected to work towards attaining AKDEC Level 1 certification in 4 disciplines of water and wastewater. Weekend and shift work may be required. /p/ph2Position Duties/h2pulliPerform tasks involving maintenance activities related to water and wastewater facilities. /liliMaintain logs on all equipment related to water and wastewater facilities. Perform record keeping calculations. /liliRespond to emergency calls relating to water and wastewater facility maintenance and operations. /liliLearns science and rationale behind routine sample collection and testing./liliLearns how test results are used to monitor compliance with permits./liliUse various hand and power tools when required to perform a task./liliOperated forklifts, loaders, backhoes, flatbed trucks, utility trucks, vactor truck, and similar motorized equipment. /liliAssist in maintaining water and wastewater facilities including but not limited to collecting samples for laboratory work, cleaning and repairing equipment. /liliParticipate in sewer collection system maintenance, and in clean-up after wastewater system failures. /liliPromotes positive public relations, responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner and provide information within scope of knowledge or refers to supervisor. /liliPerforms all tasks in accordance with sound safety practices./liliReads department manuals, procedure manuals, equipment manuals, and other manuals to become familiar with equipment, tools, processes and procedures. /liliPerforms ongoing continuing education necessary to maintain all received certifications and licenses./li/ul/ph2Minimum Qualifications/h2pul liAbility and desire to learn through training, including classroom and self-directed training, and on-line and in-person testing. /liliAbility to work with little supervision, be self-motivated, manage time effectively and solve problems successfully. /liliAbility to develop and maintain productive relationship with public, supervisor and co-workers. /li/ul/ph2Other Qualifications/h2pustrongEducation and Experience:/strong/uul liHigh School diploma or GED equivalent/li/ulemAny combination of related education and/or related experience will be considered if the candidate possesses the demonstrated ability./embrbrustrongLicenses:/strong/ubrState of Alaska CDL (Commercial Driver's License) with B endorsement.brbrWithin thirty (30) days of employment, employee will be offered Hepatitis vaccine series. uEmployees declining vaccinations will be required to sign a waiver. /ubrbrThe following must be current or obtained within 6 months of employment:ul liCPR or BLS card /liliFirst Aid Certification/li/ulAny two certifications in any of the following four disciplines must be current or obtained within 1 year of employment: ul liAKDEC Level I Water Treatment /liliAKDEC Level 1 Water Distribution /liliAKDEC Level 1 Wastewater Treatment /liliAKDEC Level 1 Wastewater Collection/li/ulMust be able to hear. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; and taste or smell. Each of the listed activities also requires standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, climbing on stools and ladders, and routinely lift and carry items and boxes up to seventy (70) pounds. brbrFrequent outdoor work and exposure to inclement weather and rigorous conditions. Crawling, bending, stooping in confined areas. Clearing brush, trees and debris from dams and spillways. Lifting, holding, carrying and using various tools and equipment. Administer CPR and first aid as needed. /p
