The distinguishing feature between the Instrumentation Technician and Electrician classifications is that the latter also becomes involved in the installation, maintenance and repair of high-voltage electrical equipment whereas the Instrumentation Technician class is limited to non-high voltage of electrical work (less than 440v.) in addition to electronic-related duties.brbrstronguESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:/u/strongulliInstalls, maintains, calibrates and trouble-shoots electronic and related instruments that measure and/or indicate speed control, pressure, weight, electrical current, time, motion, force or chemical reaction.liInstalls, repairs and adjusts electric motors, switches, gauges and control panels.liInstalls, calibrates, maintains, troubleshoots and services registers, flow meters, programmable logic controllers, electronic valve controllers, various alarm systems and components, distributed process control computer systems, modems, transducers, ac and dc variable speed drives, telemetry systems, equipment control systems and analytical instruments.liMakes miscellaneous repairs, including changing fuses, lamp bulbs, lighting fixtures, switches and outlets; installs and maintains electric, control, and signal cables and conduits.liMaintains plant telephone system; repairs or replaces sump pumps, dehumidifiers and heaters.liLubricates and oils electric-powered equipment; maintains adequate inventory of replacement parts for all electrical and electronic instruments and equipment.liReads and interprets sketches, wiring diagrams, specifications and codes.liMay program minor alterations to a programmable logic controller or a distributed process control computer.liMay make recommendations to supervisors for changes or improvements to systems./ulustrongREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES/strong/ubrustrongKnowledge of:/strong/uulliElectronics and electrical repair and pertinent electrical codesliProgrammable controllers and relay logic programmingliVariable speed drivesliTools, materials and practices of the tradeliBasic hydraulics, including pump principlesliOccupational hazards and safety precautions of the tradeliBasic AC and DC electrical theory/ulustrongSkill in:/strong/uulliTrouble-shooting and repairing defects in electronic and electrical equipment and systemliPerforming the necessary calculations relating to electrical and instrumentation systems and equipmentliReading and interpreting schematics, blueprints, electrical wiring diagrams, specifications, electrical codes and testing devices of the tradeliMaintenance and installation records/ulustrongAbility to:/strong/uulliWork with individuals of diverse backgrounds.liEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, vendor representatives and clients./ulustrongREQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND CERTIFICATIONS/strong/uulliGraduation from high school or General Educational Development (GED) Tests equivalencynbsp;liTwo (2) years of technical training in electronics or closely related area or an Associate Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology or closely related arealiOne (1) year of direct experience in repairing, calibrating and troubleshooting electronic instrumentation to include programmable logic controllers and process control devicesnbsp;liMust possess a valid Driver’s License/ulustrongPREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS/strong/uulliNone/ulstronguPHYSICAL DEMANDS:/u/strongbrstrongThe physical demands described within this job description must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
