Duties include safe transportation of departmental staff to and from field camps and low altitude flights in support of stream enumeration, fish surveys, and oversight of fishing fleet activities. This position requires highly specialized flying; frequently operating out of unimproved landing strips, beaches, lakes and lagoons in unpredictable weather and over hazardous terrain. This position serves as the lead pilot for regional operations, establishing task priorities and assigning work. The off season is in Kodiak from approximately September through April and in Chignik for the summer field season approximately May through August and possibly through September. Off-season duties include maintenance, repair, alteration, and annual inspections of five Commercial Fisheries aircraft based in Kodiak. Maintains aviation maintenance and service records for each aircraft according to FAA and department standards. Serves as custodian for regional aircraft and maintenance/hangar facility and maintains a comprehensive inventory of aircraft parts, support and service equipment.
