pHOURLY RANGE: $19.41 $24.97br /br /DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves performing beginning br /level work in the field of recreation including the performance of routine tasks. The incumbent assists br /in the conduct of a recreation program or activity. Work is performed under the direct supervision br /of a recreation or administrative employee of higher rank. Does related work as required. br /TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: br /Assists in the conduct of a program at a recreation center or physical facility; br /Assists in the conduct of socials, dances, community signs, tournaments, special events, br /story-telling sessions, dramatics, parties, etc.; br /Assists with the officiating at athletics contests; br /Assists with the chaperoning of trips and other group activities; br /Assists in the instruction of games, sports, arts and crafts, dancing, singing, dramatics, etc.; br /Supervises the conduct of games and maintains order; br /Maintains schedules for sports and special events; br /Operates audiovisual equipment; br /Distributes and collects equipment and supplies. br /IF ASSIGNED TO A LONG -TERM CARE FACILITY: br /Assists in conducting various recreational activities for residents such as table games, parties, br /music activities, showing of films, making calendars and decorations, plus any other br /activities that arise out of special interest; br /Assists in chaperoning of trips and special events planned by recreation workers of higher level br /that arise out of special interest, community involvement or required by New York State br /Health Department; br /Assists residents at various programs in accordance with residents' reactions and capacity to br /participate; br /Records reaction and attendance for assigned programs;br /Develops and carries out programs for Sensory Stimulation Group with approval of Director of br /Recreational Activities. br /FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE. SKILLS. ABILITIES AND PERSONAL br /CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the organization and conduct of one or more types of br /recreational activities; good knowledge of the methods of group instructions; ability to stimulate and br /hold the interest of participants; ability to render first aid; initiative; resourcefulness; capable br /of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. br /Continued...br /RECREATION ASSISTANT continued...br /MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: br /A) Completion of two (2) years of study at a two (2) or four (4) year college* or university*; or: br /B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and one (1)br /year of experience in conducting organized recreational activities; or: br /C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B). br /SPECIAL REQUIREMENT (for Employees of ECMCC):br /Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from an ECMCC approved provider within sixty br /(60) days of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of employment.br /IN ADDITION, SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ECMCC EMPLOYEES ASSIGNED TO IN-PATIENT br /BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AREA:br /Completion of New York State Office of Mental Health-Bureau of Education and Workforce Development br /(BEWD) certified safety program within three (3) months of appointment and participation in annual re-training;br /Section 424-a of the Social Services Law requires the local social services district to inquire whether the applicant br /is the subject of an indicated child abuse or maltreatment report on file with the State Central Register of Child br /Abuse and Maltreatment. All potential employees for this position will be requested to sign the necessary br /clearance form prior to being advised that they will be hired.
