- Completes comprehensive assessment and history on patients’ admission. Reflects sensitivity to different age, cultural and religious backgrounds. \n
- Initiates effective interventions based on assessed problems. Evaluates, reports and documents patient’s response to care. \n
- Care is given in collaboration with patient, family and other team members, demonstrating understanding of team approach to patient care. \n
- All documentation is on correct forms, is complete, legible, correct and current. \n
- Effectively identifies predictable problems, assesses patient’s response to care and takes appropriate, timely actions. \n
- Participates in Performance Improvement program meeting deadlines for studies. Verbalizes understanding of department and hospital performance improvement plans and changes practices in response to performance improvement actions. \n
- Cleans and prepares treatment areas between patients. Supplies and assures equipment is in working order. \n
- All assessments and interventions reflect knowledge of department policy, procedure and are in tandem with the job description. \n
- Attends staff meetings, reads email and other key documents. Responds to inquiries promptly. \n
- Has department project. Gives 2 department specific in-services/year and attends 12. \n
- Accepts professional responsibility and accountability for professional actions. Uses critical thinking skills in daily practice. \n
- Promotes teamwork by participating with the health care team. Communicates appropriately and effectively. \n
- Keeps families informed appropriately. Complaints are investigated and reported. \n
Physical Demands
\n • Moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 25 lbs.)
\n • Occasional prolonged standing/walking
\n • Assists with lifting and moving patients
\n • Occasionally lifts supplies/equipment
\n • Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
Working Conditions
\n • May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases
\n • Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases
\n • Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness.)
\n • Handle emergency or crisis situations
\n • Perform emergency care
\n • Requires judgment/action which could result in death of patient.
Minimum Education/Certification
\n • Associate’s Degree or diploma from accredited nursing program may be substituted for an AA degree
\n • Current California Registered Nurse License
\n • Current BLS and ACLS certification
\n • PALS Certification within 1 year of hire
\n • MICN certification - Required within 1 year of hire date
\n • TNCC certification - Required within 1 year of hire date
Preferred Experience / Certification
\n • 2-4 years experience as a Registered Nurse in Acute Care
\n • 1 year experience as a Registered Nurse in an emergency room
