Schedule: Monday Friday, 6:30 AM 3:00 PM
Call: Variable weekday/weekend call rotation required
We are seeking a highly skilled and independent Physician Assistant (PA) with significant experience in cardiothoracic surgery to join our dedicated surgical team. This is a full-time, on-site position providing advanced surgical and clinical services in both a community hospital CVOR and clinic setting.
Experience in atrial vein harvesting is REQUIRED this is a critical requirement for the role.
Key Responsibilities:Surgical First Assist:
Assist in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical procedures.
Provide exposure, retraction, suctioning, sponging, suturing, cautery use, dressing application, wound vac application, minor debridement, and handling surgical instruments.
Make independent surgical incisions and closures for open and endoscopic vessel harvesting (radial and saphenous).
Operate and assist with complex surgical technologies (e.g., robotics, lasers, sterilizers).
Procedures & Specialties (Required Experience):
CABG: Endoscopic Vessel Harvesting (EVH) and open vessel harvesting
TAVR, TACR
Vascular surgery procedures
ECMO initiation and management
Arterial and venous line insertions
Chest tube insertion/removal, intubation, thoracentesis
Central venous line placement, bladder catheterization, wound care, venipuncture
Cardiac resuscitation and defibrillation
ECG interpretation
Preoperative & Postoperative Care:
Conduct preoperative assessments and confirm OR scheduling and prep (blood, labs, imaging).
Provide postoperative patient monitoring and care, document progress, and alert the surgeon to changes.
Assist with patient rounds, data collection, discharge summaries, and complication follow-up.
Cath Lab & Bedside Procedures:
Assist with invasive bedside procedures and Cath Lab interventions as directed by the surgeon.
Participate in a shared rotation for weekday and weekend call coverage.
Provide coverage for invasive and surgical and postoperative care procedures.
Current certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C)
Licensed or eligible for PA licensure in the state
Minimum 2 3 years of direct surgical experience in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery
Proficient in EVH (endoscopic vessel harvesting), open radial and saphenous harvesting
Experience with atrial vein harvesting (MANDATORY)
Able to work independently in high-acuity, fast-paced environments
ACLS/BLS certification required
Participation in hospital quality programs
Attendance at in-house educational meetings and CME conferences encouraged and supported
