More information about CPS can be found on our website at a href="http://www.chelseaschools.com/cps" target="_blank" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.chelseaschools.com/cpssource=gmailust=1708784927663000usg=AOvVaw0hnAmzrAuM1cN0hYwGQwnr"www.chelseaschools.com/cps/a./p pnbsp;/p pstrongJob Responsibilities:/strong/p ul li pProvides first aid to injured children and staff and everyday care of acutely ill children and staff/p /li li pKeeps daily records of students and staff seen in health room/p /li li pMaintains comprehensive current health records on each student/p /li li pManages children with communicable diseases/p /li li pResponds to frequently encountered health issues, providing counseling and crisis intervention when required/p /li li pProvides medically prescribed interventions/p /li li pAdministers over the counter medications per school physician certified standing orders to students and staff/p /li li pCollaborates with the parent/guardian and student to develop and implement an individualized health care plan for student/p /li li pDevelops a nursing diagnosis and care plan with specific goals and interventions/p /li li pResponds to child neglect or abuse issues (as required by Massachusetts statute)/p /li li pPerforms state mandated screening programs and provides appropriate referrals/p /li li pAssists Board of Health with immunization programs in the schools and community clinics for disease prevention/p /li li pPrepares regular written reports for school officials and MDPH and other agencies/p /li li pCarries out communicable disease prevention and infection control based on current guidelines for universal precautions, prevention of blood borne pathogens exposure and hazardous medical waste disposal/p /li li pEstablishes a process to identify students at risk for physical and psychosocial problems communicates health needs to other school personnel as appropriate and establishes a referral system using both internal and community resources./p /li li pParticipates as a team member; with parental consent when indicated, shares information with other team members about children with special health care problems which affect learning and growth/p /li li pActs as an advocate for the student and family when appropriate/p /li li pAttends Special Education Team meetings when needed/p /li li pIdentifies health-related needs for inclusion in the individual education plan/p /li li pServes as a member of pertinent committees and teams/p /li li pTeaches the basic principles of health promotion and disease prevention to students and staff in community/p /li li pAssumes responsibilities for in-service programs for school personnel for universal precautions, first aid, emergency care procedures/p /li li pActs as a resource in health education to school personnel, students and families/p /li li pUnderstands and applies core public health functions of assessment, policy development, and assurance/p /li li pUses community resources for referral of students with unmet health needs, including the need for a primary care provider/p /li li pParticipates in the planning and implementation of new services/p /li li pInterprets school health service needs and the role of the school nurse to the school and community/p /li li pAssumes responsibility for own continuing education/p /li li pMaintains certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation/p /li li pPerform other related duties that may be assigned by the Manager of Health Services or building principal/p /li /ul pstrongQualifications Required:/strong/p ul liAbility to organize time, work independently and accomplish tasks despite frequent interruptions; maintain detailed statistics and records as required by the assignment; communicate effectively with the public, co-workers, officials and with those at other agencies/li liValid current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Massachusetts/li liLicensed or eligible for licensure as a school nurse through the Massachusetts Department of Education/li liBachelor or Masterrsquo;s degree in nursing or Masters Degree in Education from an accredited nursing program/li liCertification in CPR/li liCitizenship, residency or work visa required/li /ul pstrongQualifications Preferred:/strong/p ul liMinimum of one year experience as a school nurse or related field/li liBilingual Spanish/li /ul pstrongTerms:/strong/p pThis is a temporary position for the duration of a leave of absence or temporary vacancy. DESE certified nurse's pay rate is $35/hour, and non-DESE certified nurse's pay rate is $30/hour. The length of the school day is 6.5 hours, but subject to longer hours for schools with extended day.
