Mobile Cafe Crew Member (Weekends Only)

About Us: 

Starboard Side Cafe is a young, growing business that launched in January 2024 with a passion for fresh, healthy, locally sourced food. Right now, you can find us selling on weekends at farmers markets, festivals, and events on and near Galveston Island. We currently operate out of a vendor tent, but big things are on the horizon — we’ll soon be cooking and serving from a mobile food trailer!

Our dream is to eventually open a brick-and-mortar café where locals and visitors can enjoy delicious, wholesome meals in a welcoming space. We’re looking for team members who believe in our vision and are excited to help us grow, both at the markets and behind the scenes as we build something special from the ground up.

Position Summary: *(Weekends Only)*

As a Mobile Café Crew Member, you'll represent Starboard Side Cafe at farmers markets and pop-up events. You'll help with setup and breakdown, take customer orders, serve prepared food items, and promote our focus on fresh, wholesome ingredients. This role offers a unique work experience that combines food service, community engagement, and the opportunity to be part of an expanding local business. Crew Members are also encouraged to actively support the café’s growth by promoting Starboard Side Cafe within their personal networks and local community, even outside of scheduled work hours.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with loading and unloading café equipment and supplies
  Set up and break down the booth/tent according to company standards
• Serve food items and share information about our locally sourced ingredients
• Provide outstanding customer service and product knowledge
• Handle cash, credit card, and mobile transactions accurately
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area throughout the shift
• Follow all food safety and handling procedures
• Represent Starboard Side Cafe with professionalism and enthusiasm
• Engage with the community, educate customers about our fresh, healthy offerings
• Actively promote the cafe and its mission both during shifts and through personal networks when possible

Qualifications:

• Previous customer service or food service experience preferred (but not required — we’re happy to train the right person!)
• Friendly, positive attitude and strong communication skills
• Passion for healthy, locally sourced food
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods
• Comfortable working early mornings and outdoors in various weather conditions
• Dependable transportation to market/event locations
• Punctual, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Must be 16 years of age or older

Hours and Pay:

Part-time, primarily weekends (Saturdays and/or Sundays) with the potential for additional weekday shifts as we continue to grow.
Flexible weekend scheduling is available
Occasional additional weekday shifts for special events
$10-$12/hour (hired on as a contract employee)
