The City of Carson is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who have a passion for working with kids and promoting active lifestyles. Ideal candidates enjoy sports, mentorship, and community engagement. Volunteers will support seasonal youth sports programs by coaching, mentoring, and assisting with various activities that help shape young athletes and foster teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. If you’re energetic, patient, and eager to make a positive impact, we’d love to have you on our team!- Under direction, coach an assigned team(s) of youth and emphasize good sportsmanship and fundamentals development.
- Attend and lead all practices, games, and events for assigned team(s) as directed by the department
- Perform all other assigned duties as requested by the lead staff and/or supervisor.
This position is open to all candidates who meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Must have working knowledge of recreational sports, either leading/coaching a team or playing on a team.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have access to dependable means of transportation to and from assigned location or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation to and from assigned location.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with youth in recreation programs, sports, and/or other related areas is desirable.
- Ability and willing to adapt to a changing environment.
All prospective volunteers must undergo a background screening process, including a Live Scan fingerprint check through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), as required by California law (Penal Code § 11105 and § 11105.3). Some volunteer positions may require a TB test clearance. Please note that your start date will be contingent upon successfully clearing the background check.
