Other duties may be assigned./p ul liConducts pre-trip inspection of school bus prior to every trip for defects./li liUses established routes and designated bus stops./li liOperates bus on approved time schedule./li liReports bus accidents and student injuries to authorities./li liConducts emergency evaluation drills in keeping with division regulations./li liDrives defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather./li liReports personal absences in time for supervisor to secure substitute driver./li liReports bus defects to supervisor./li liEstablishes favorable working relationships with other driver, teachers, students, and other school staff./li liDemonstrates knowledge of State laws and local ordinances./li liComplies with dress code./li liUses professional conduct at all times./li liCommunicates effectively with parents, colleagues, school personnel and everyone within the confines of the job.nbsp;/li /ul pstrongSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES/strong/p ul liSupervise students while riding bus./li /ul pstrongQUALIFICATIONS/strong/p pAny combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school./p pnbsp;/p pstrongSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/strong/p pSatisfactory health condition as certified by a competent medical authority.nbsp; Must demonstrate the ability to successfully complete the Virginia Education Department training curriculum for school busnbsp;span class="il"drivers/spannbsp;and obtain a Commercialnbsp;span class="il"Driver/span's License with appropriate school bus endorsements within the probationary period. Complete State and County requirements of twenty hours of classroom and twenty hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. No recklessnbsp;span class="il"driving/spannbsp;ornbsp;span class="il"driving/spannbsp;under the influence convictions within five years and/or fewer than two moving violations within 12 months of employment.nbsp; English language proficiency is required per Code of Virginia 46.2-341.14./p pnbsp;/p pstrongEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE/strong/p ul liMeets school bus driver certification requirements with minimum hours of instruction and satisfactorily pass the knowledge examination./li liMeet State requirements for appropriate licensing./li liMeet State physical examination requirements./li liMeet local and/or State standards for driving test./li liMeet local and/or State standards for driver record check./li liMust have successfully completed the National Red Cross First Aid Course./li liAbility to operate all vehicle types used in transporting students in the school division./li liAbility to operate radio communication when necessary./li /ul pstrongLANGUAGE SKILLS/strong/p pAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.nbsp; Ability to write simple correspondence.nbsp; Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations./p pnbsp;/p pstrongREASONING ABILITY/strong/p pAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.nbsp; Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations./p pnbsp;/p pstrongCERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS/strong/p p(see above qualifications)/p pnbsp;/p pstrongPHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND NATURE OF WORK CONTACTS/strong/p pWork is typically performed inside and around the exterior of a school bus. Frequent bending, stooping, crawling and climbing to inspect on and under a school bus is necessary. Occasional lifting of at least fifty pounds is required. Frequent contact withnbsp;span class="il"driver/spannbsp;supervisors and students is required. Occasional contact with principals, parents and the general public is required. Occasional meetings with principals and parents are necessary. Person shall have no impairment of the use of a foot, leg, hand, finger, or an arm, and no other structural defects or limitation likely to interfere with the ability to control and safely drive a school bus. Must have the physical ability to operate the following controls on a school bus; open and close the service door which requires up to 25 psi exerted by the right hand and arm; activate the clutch pedal which requires up to 70 psi exerted by the left foot and leg; operate a manual transmission shift lever which requires up to 20 psi exerted by the right hand and arm; jump from or climb up to a least 3.5 feet, at the emergency door, to assist in the evacuation of the students.
