Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Operating Room position at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring a minimum of 3 years of OR experience with a strong ortho background and prior travel experience.

Details
  • Work setting is an acute care Critical Access Hospital (CAH) in a resort town known for a high volume of orthopedic and sports medicine cases
  • OR department consists of 4 surgical suites plus 1 endoscopy suite, averaging 8 cases per day
  • Common case types include orthopedic (total joints, sports medicine, hands, trauma), general, GYN, C-sections, and endoscopy
  • EMR system is Epic; TDOC is used for instrument tracking and ProVation is used by providers for endoscopy
  • Schedule is Monday–Friday, 8-hour day shifts (0700–1530), with adjustments made as needed
  • On-call begins at 1530 and runs until 0700 the following morning, with approximately 4 weeknights of call per month
  • Weekend call is typically 1 full weekend per month (0700 Saturday through 0700 Monday)
  • Holiday call may be assigned if a holiday falls during the contract period
  • Call response time requires the candidate to remain within 30 minutes of the hospital at all times while on call
  • The OR team is expected to cover endoscopy; all OR personnel assist with room turnover and cleaning alongside the orderly team
  • Scrubbing by RNs is not required; CSTs and RNs who scrub are available, along with orderlies for room turnover
  • No blocked scheduling or special scheduling requests will be accepted
Requirements
  • Active ID or compact RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS is recommended
  • Minimum 3 years of OR experience required
  • Strong orthopedic background required; experience in sports medicine, general surgery, robotics, and gynecology strongly preferred
  • Endoscopy or C-section experience required
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Valid driver's license required
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not eligible
Additional Information
  • This is a fast-paced OR environment with a heavy caseload dominated by orthopedic and sports medicine procedures as well as robotics
  • Travelers are paired with a preceptor for unit-specific orientation; orientation consists of 5 days covering unit norms and system values
  • Blue scrubs are provided per surgical services attire policy; appropriate OR footwear is required
  • Former permanent employees of the facility must have been separated for at least one year before being eligible for a travel assignment
  • This position is best suited for experienced travelers who are ready to hit the ground running; first-time travelers are not being considered
