Job Description
Position: Controller
Universal Companies Inc. has been in business for over 40 years. We are one of the top shippers in the Mid-South area, distributing 1,000+ different industrial, utility & safety products all across the country. We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our team. As a Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities of the company and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations. The ideal candidate has a strong background in corporate accounting, is familiar with financial concepts, and has experience in public or governmental accounting. Additionally, a background with property management is preferred. If you are detail-oriented, analytical, and have excellent leadership skills, we would love to hear from you. The role is also more multi-faceted with other responsibilities including overseeing the utility division processes & bid management, procurement responsibilities and organization, and other roles such as payroll, insurance, subscription service management, etc.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of the company's financial operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger
- Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts
- Monitor cash flow and manage banking relationships
- Oversee the preparation of tax returns and ensure compliance with tax laws
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision-making
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other relevant accounting standards
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team
Requirements:
- Proven working experience as Accounting Manager or Accounting Supervisor
- Advanced computer skills on MS Office, QuickBooks accounting software and databases. Experience with Acctivate Inventory software preferred.
- Computer Networking & IT background preferred but not required
- Ability to manipulate large amounts of data
- Proven knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to direct and supervise
- BS degree in Accounting – GPA of 3.5+ preferred
- CPA Preferred
Pay is dependent upon education and experience.
