The Department of Animal Sciences at Auburn University seeks a dedicated and organized individual to serve as an Administrator, Outreach Programs focused on youth livestock education. This position will support the planning, management, and delivery of youth livestock programs. The individual selected for the position will work closely with faculty, Extension personnel, and volunteers to promote youth development through educational programming related to animal sciences. This is a three-year limited term position. Continued employment will be contingent upon the availability of funding.

Essential Functions
Responsibilities included but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of statewide and regional youth livestock programs, events, and contests (e.g., livestock judging, skillathons, showmanship clinics).
  • Support administrative functions of the Alabama 4-H Livestock Program and other youth livestock programs within the state as needed, including registration, communication, scheduling, and recordkeeping.
  • Collaborate with Extension agents and volunteers to deliver educational content through youth livestock programs across Alabama.
  • Prepare educational materials, promotional content, and event logistics for workshops, camps, and trainings.
  • Maintain program databases, mailing lists, and website/social media content.
  • Attend and support youth livestock events, including county, district, and state shows, often requiring travel and some weekend work.
  • Assist in evaluating program effectiveness and compiling impact reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Youth Livestock Program.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Level I: Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Education, Extension, or a closely related field; no experience required.

Level II: Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Education, Extension, or a closely related field and 2 years of experience in the design, implementation, delivery and management of youth development/educational programs.

Level III: Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Education, Extension, or a closely related field and 4 years of experience in the design, implementation, delivery and management of youth development/educational programs.

Indicated education is required. No substitutions allowed.

*When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.

Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications
Minimum Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge/experience with youth development programs (preferably 4-H or FFA).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel within the state and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Minimum Technology Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and social media platforms.

  • Previous experience with livestock projects, shows, or contests.
  • Familiarity with 4-H program structure and Extension systems.
