Surgical Tech Certified
POSITION SUMMARY
• Assists surgeon during operative and invasive procedures.
• Creates and maintains the sterile field.
• Ensures operating room is adequately prepared for surgical procedure.
• Assists in the nursing care and preparation of the surgical patient.
• Monitors PAR level of surgical instruments and supplies.
• Cleans and sterilizes surgical instruments as required.
OVERVIEW
• The evaluation is to assure individual performance, departmental goals and organizational goals are aligned. It is designed to support communication between the manager and the employee. Employee perception of their own performance is very important. To maximize the benefit of this process, both the manager and the employee participate in the evaluation process.

B. Education
• High School diploma or GED
C. Licensure
• Operating Room Technician Certification. Current BCLS certification.
D. Experience
• 1 year of relevant work experience
• 1 year of experience in complex orthopedic cases

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
You are applying for the position of Certified Surgical Technologist at Coffee Regional Medical Center. Please review the list of responsibilities and qualifications. Responsibilities for surgical technologist
- Demonstrate ability to understand use, function, interpretation, documentation and record-keeping of chemical and biological indicators related to instrument and equipment high-level disinfection processes
- Demonstrates understanding of operating room technical equipment according manufacturer’s instructions for use (IFU’s) and Coffee Regional Medical Center policies and procedures.
- Performs OR support responsibilities that relate to surgical procedures under supervision of an RN Circulator.
- Will work closely with the RN Circulator to ensure that all item charges are accurate and all specimens are passed off to the Circulator promptly.
- Assists the surgeon and/or surgical team at sterile field by preparing and having available sterile instrument and equipment for specific surgical procedures.
- Collaborates with members of Operating Room team in order to maintain equipment and supplies for surgical procedures.
- The job is performed in the surgical suite and related areas. This may include assisting the surgeon in other areas outside the operating room.
- Work closely with the surgical patient and the perioperative team, and assist the surgeon during procedures as necessary.
- Serving as surgical assistant as needed.
- Gather, arrange, prepare instruments before procedures
- Assisting Physicians and Nurses (RNs) in surgery using best practices of sterile technique
- Conducting pre-op, intra-op and post-op surgical counts according to hospital's standards
- Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon to assist in expediting the operative procedure.
- Participates in clinical activities to foster evidence-based practices.
- Serves as a support and resource for other staff and students.
- Participates in coordination of unit activities to provide care in a healing, humane and caring environment.
- Cultural Competencies – Recognizes that all patients may not share the values and of their own.
- Demonstrates ability to scrub on all procedures, minor to major.
- Participate in Supply check, Inventory & sterilization processes.
- The CST will be required to participate in the call rotation of the operating room.
- The CST may be required to assist in Central Sterile when inadequate staffing issues arise.
EDUCATION AND COMPETENCY:
Required Qualifications for surgical technologist
- Graduate from an approved Surgical Technician program.
- Prefer 2-3 years OR experience, CST certification, and knowledge of specialty instrumentation sets.
- Prefer Ortho Experience in fracture and total joint replacement. Knee and shoulder arthroscopy is also preferred.
