Job Description

Job Description

The YMCA of Greater Richmond is seeking a highly organized and mission-driven professional to serve as the Director of Grants and Partnerships. This position plays a key role in advancing the Y's development efforts by securing grant funding and building corporate and community partnerships that strengthen programs, increase volunteer engagement, and drive philanthropic support.

Responsibilities

  • Write and submit compelling grant proposals and funding applications in alignment with the YMCA's mission, strategic goals, and programmatic needs.
  • Maintain accurate grant records, track deadlines and outcomes, and generate detailed reports for funders and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with branch and program staff to identify funding needs and align opportunities with organizational priorities.
  • Research, cultivate, and steward corporate, foundation, and community relationships to expand partnership opportunities and enhance giving.
  • Document and track all donor interactions, including solicitation and stewardship activity, gift documentation, and acknowledgments to ensure data accuracy and donor recognition.
  • Assist in planning and executing special events, fundraising campaigns, and donor engagement efforts.
  • Promote, foster, and support the Y's commitment to access, inclusion, and engagement by developing inclusive partnerships that reflect the diversity of our communities.
  • Represent the YMCA in community meetings and networking events to strengthen visibility and collaborative opportunities.
  • Support Association initiatives related to membership retention and Annual Giving, working closely with the Advancement team and executive leadership.
  • Communicate the Y's mission, values, and community impact effectively to internal and external stakeholders.

Knowledge & Skills

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree and bring at least three years of relevant experience, preferably in nonprofit development, grant writing, or fundraising. They will demonstrate exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to produce accurate, compelling proposals and reports. Success in this role requires strong organizational and time management abilities, particularly when handling multiple projects and deadlines. The candidate should be proactive, adaptable, and able to work both independently and collaboratively across departments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is expected, and familiarity with donor databases such as Blackbaud or Salesforce is highly preferred.

Given the nature of this role, a high level of discretion and professionalism is essential when working with confidential information. Equally important is the ability to build meaningful relationships with internal teams, corporate partners, and community stakeholders while supporting the YMCA's values of inclusion, access, and engagement.
