Purchasing Agent, West Side Manufacturer

The ideal candidate will have expertise in supply chain management and demand planning, ensuring efficient material flow to support operations.

This full-time position's primary responsibility focuses on acquiring ongoing steel purchases to support production at the best possible prices, quality and delivery times, and plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the manufacturing process and Company profitability.

Minimum of 5 years direct related experience in steel purchasing, production planning/scheduling and inventory management are key critical roles.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Identifying and evaluating suppliers, negotiating costs, supplier capabilities and managing relationships
• Ensuring the timely and cost-effective procurement of raw materials needed for production and that purchased materials meet quality control standards and specifications
• Analyzing price proposals, negotiating favorable terms, and tracking costs to make informed purchasing decisions
• Working with sales/production team, optimizing inventory levels; minimizing waste; and prevention of excess inventory
• Advise manufacturing departments of changes which could effect on-time delivery and expedite operations that delay planned production schedules
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to effectively communicate with suppliers and internal teams
• Problem solving ability to resolve issues related to quality and/or delivery
• Prior experience with manufacturing processes and utilization of ERP system 
• Ability to manage multiple projects; prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
