Position Overview:
The Machine Shop Technician I work under the guidance and supervision of the Machining Supervisor to support day-to-day machine shop operations. This entry-level role focuses on developing core machining skills, maintaining shop cleanliness, and assisting with material preparation. The Technician I is expected to adhere to Fibreworks Composites (FWC) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and company policies while actively supporting a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cut various types of materials using manual machines such as band saws, planers, table saws, skill saws, and jointers.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of hand tools and mechanical devices.
  • Assist in the bonding and gluing of materials in accordance with multiple FWC SOPs.
  • Operate a forklift in a safe and efficient manner (upon certification).
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety practices.
  • Maintain and organize stock materials, tools, and tooling to support workflow.
  • Communicate inventory needs to the Administrator for timely restocking.
  • Perform routine shop upkeep, including machine cleaning, coolant level checks (using a refractometer), and general housekeeping (sweeping, mopping, dusting).
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures in accordance with company and regulatory guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Career Pathing

Machine Shop Technician I serve as an entry point in the machining career path. With two (2) years of consistent performance and mastery of required skills, individuals are eligible for promotion to Machine Shop Apprentice – Level 2.

 

Milestones for Machine Shop Apprentice – Level 1:

  • Completion of FWC’s Forklift Certification.
  • Proficient use of manual machines to cut various materials.
  • Consistently and efficiently perform bonding/glue-up processes.
  • Maintain clean and organized stock materials and workspace.
  • Demonstrate basic understanding of CNC machines and their functions.
  • Begin developing skills with precision measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.

What You Will Bring to the Team

  • High school diploma, GED, or vocational school equivalent (required).
  • 1–2 years of machining experience preferred but not required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle record.
  • Strong math and mechanical aptitude.
  • Eagerness to learn and perform precision work.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions from work instruction sheets.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn to interpret mechanical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Forklift certification or experience operating forklifts is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and a results-driven mindset.
  • Demonstrated reliability with exemplary attendance.
  • Must be adaptable to a changing work environment and completing demands
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or lawful Permanent Resident in compliance with ITAR regulations.

Hours of Operation:

Normal business hours: 1st Shift: 7:00AM – 4:00PM; Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends and holidays as scheduled by leadership.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Combination of indoor and outdoor activities with varying conditions
  • Requires walking, standing, sitting, climbing, balancing, bending, reaching, handling, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
  • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • May involve operating material handling equipment in a safe manner
  • Work may include exposure to variable noise levels, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc., requiring personal protective equipment
  • Some positions may require working with small parts/components, necessitating excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
