Substation Technician B - Full-time

pstrongPosition Summary:/strongnbsp; Substation Technician -B is a non-exempt position in the construction, maintenance and repair of substation equipment / systems.nbsp;nbsp; Substation Technician- B has a 4-6 year continuous working knowledge of 525 kv and below substation equipment, apparatus, and wiring. This position requires work in confined spaces and in elevated work areas, and works with various pieces of construction equipment specific to the trade. A Substation Technician- B may work independently or with others, occasionally work long hours during emergency conditions. This position should be able to coach subordinates on the crew.nbsp; This position works at various locations. The position may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands./p pnbsp;/p pbr/strongEssential Functions:/strong/p ul liWork safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, adjusting and troubleshooting work of substation equipment/systems which includes, but is not limited to, work involving the following:/li liConcrete Foundations, ground grids, and steel erection/li liBuswork (High and Low Voltage)/li liAirbreak / Hookstick Switches/li liControl Cable/li liTerminations (High / Low Voltage)/li liControl Buildings/li liConduit and duck banks/li liCapacitor bank installations 23kv- 230 kv/li liTransformers, regulators and circuit breakers/li liCircuit Switchers, motor-operated and manual switches/li liResponsible for maintaining Company vehicles, test equipment and tools in good working conditions./li liFrequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.br/nbsp;/li /ul pstrongMinimum Requirements:/strong/p ul liAble to perform rigorous physical labor./li liMust be capable of climbing and working at heights up to 125 feet above ground.nbsp;/li liMust possess a valid Commercial Drivers’ License. No restrictions preferred./li liMust supply own personal hand tools required by the company for this work./li liMust supply own safety toed work boots./li liMust be capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs./li liMust be capable of working in confined spaces/areas./li liMust be able to work independently or with others./li liOperational experience ofnbsp; various types of heavy equipment: ul liBucket, derrick and boom trucks/li liBackhoes, excavators and skid steer loaders/li liArticulating Man-lifts/li liPressure Diggers/li liTrenchers/li liTrack Crawler Loader/Backhoe/li liRough Terrain Telescopic Forklifts/li /ul/li liWilling to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested. Schedules can change frequently and with short notice./li li90% Travel Required/li liCapable of following Company safety rules and policies./li liMust have knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards./li liMust be capable of working in close proximity of energized substation equipment./li liMust be capable of interpreting substation structural drawings (i.e. elevations, plan views, section views, grounding details, and foundation plans) and communicate with customers and subordinates./li liCapable of accurately appraising technical situations./li liMust be able to coach subordinates on the crew./li liMust be able to develop and interpret a material list./li liMust be able to trace out phasing in a substation and verify to the three line diagrams./li liRetained knowledge in all aspects of substation systems./li liAbility to establish grade, elevations, and layout of foundations and cable trough in new and existing stations./li liGrade and finish concrete slabs and foundations./li liCapable of performing routine carpentry work on building wood concrete forms to meet size and shape of concrete to be placed./li liWilling to work outside of the normal work schedule including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required for the position./li /ul pstrongPhysical Demands:/strong/p pThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job./p pWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
