h2About the Department/h2pInstructor is responsible for the planning and implementation of various fire science courses. Instructor is required to create a course syllabus, instruct students in the subject matter in accordance with that syllabus, maintain attendance records, assess student progress and evaluate course work for a letter grade. Instructor will maintain college standards in all aspects of professionalism, record keeping and instruction within the team atmosphere of the fire science department of Rogue Community College. nbsp;brnbsp;brustrongSupervision Received/strong/ubrnbsp;brThe dean, in consultation with the department head, is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors under procedures developed by the vice president.brnbsp;/ph2Position Duties/h2p1. Instructs students in a classroom, lab, learning center, or other setting as appropriate. br2. Arrives early for labs and assists in the setup and preparation of lab stations and scenarios. br3. Assists in the cleanup and restocking of lab equipment and supplies. br4. Evaluates students' performance in stations designed to mirror the skills performance tests used for certification. br5. Acts as a proctor and/or role-player for simulated emergency scenarios.br6. Completes written Lab Evaluation Rubrics to provide performance feedback to students, Wildland Fire Science Coordinator, and Dean when appropriate. br7. Represents the program and the College to the community, businesses, public agencies, and other organizations in a professional manner. br8. Communicates effectively with a wide variety of students and college staff. br9. Responsible for departmental equipment and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate to the department. br10. Participates in curriculum planning and development as needed. br11. Organizes the learning experience for the maximum benefit of traditional and non-traditional learners. br12. Advise students on matters of program goals and course requirements. br13. Performs other duties as assigned. /ph2Minimum Qualifications/h2pustrongEducation/strong/ustrong:/strong nbsp;AA degree in Fire Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Oregon State certification at or above the Fire Science level being taught required. NFPA or DPSST Instructor 1 certification or above. Current EMT or higher licensure is required.brnbsp;bremOnly degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: nbsp;accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. nbsp;Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree./embrnbsp;brustrongLicenses and Certificates:/strong/ustrongnbsp;/strong For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License and proof of an acceptable driving record are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver’s license within 30 days (emORS 807.020 (1)/em)em./emnbsp;brnbsp;brustrongExperience:/strong/ustrongnbsp;/strong 3-5 years of full-time experience working in the Fire Science structural suppression field. Knowledge of Wildland Fire prevention/firefighting, Crisis Management, Hazardous Materials, and EMT.nbsp;nbsp;brnbsp;brustrongKnowledge of/strong:/unbsp; Knowledge of Fire Science subject matter being taught for in-field and classroom/lab setting. Computer applications for communication and learning, including, but not limited to, word processing, the Internet, multi-media presentations, spreadsheets and database management; curriculum development; the community colleges' mission, role in higher education, and student population; and sensitivity to a diverse student body and its needs.nbsp;nbsp;brnbsp;brustrongAbility to:/strong/unbsp; Instructor must be capable of supervising students in the learning environment, especially during hands-on activities. Be able to demonstrate correct and safe use of equipment. Instructor may utilize assistants and/or guest instructors on approval from the Fire Science Coordinator. The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to 35 pounds on a regular basis and up to 80 pounds on occasion. On feet 90% of time.
