About this job

pTransports patients between service areas/nursing units, attends to the comfort of patients, delivers equipment and supplies, and assists in maintaining a neat and presentable department. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior. Works under the direct supervision of the departmental director/manager or designee who reviews work for conformance with established standards and policies./ph3Responsibilities/h3divol liTransports patients safely and efficiently between service areas/nursing units. Lifts, transfers, and assists patients into chairs, wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds./li br liAttends to patient comfort by supplying pillows, blankets, equipment, and supplies./li br liPicks up from and delivers to their appropriate destinations various items such as equipment, supplies, linen (soiled amp; clean), mail, and laboratory specimens./li br liApplies oxygen tanks to patients as instructed./li br liMonitors, cleans and performs routine maintenance on equipment, supplies, stretchers, wheelchairs, etc. Reports malfunctions to immediate supervisor or designee./li br liAssists in scrubbing and/or shaving patients preparatory to surgery./li br liMaintains work area/department in clean and orderly condition. Stocks linen and supplies./li br liDemonstrates effective judgment and ability to understand, react effectively and treat (if appropriate) the unique needs of patient age groups served./li br liPerforms other related duties as assigned. Utilizes new improvements and/or technologies that relate to job assignment./li br /ol/divh3Qualifications/h3divliHigh school graduate and/or GED equivalent./li liSufficient strength to lift moderately heavy objects and to push patients in wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds./li liAbility to read, write, and comprehend English and accurately document activities./li liAbility to learn institutional techniques, practices, and regulations./li liAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructions./li liAbility to keep required records and make reports./li liAbility to maintain an empathetic attitude toward patients and harmonious relationships with patients, physicians, employees and the public./li liMust obtain BLS certification upon start of position and must maintain certification per AHA guidelines./li/div
