Job Summary:
Highline, a telecommunications provider, is searching for a Broadband Design Engineer to join its team. The desired individual will be responsible for preparing detailed construction and installation design for fiber projects including but not limited to cost estimates, securing permits, easements, and rights-of-way, staking sheets and as-builts, procurement of equipment and material, field inspections, and maintaining accurate plant records.
The individual should be skilled in both project and people management as this role interacts with various levels of company staff, the general public, contractors, other utilities, consultants, government, and regulatory agencies.
Essential Duties:
- Performs engineering activities associated with the design of fiber networks in conjunction with meeting project timelines.
- Prepares detailed construction and installation drawings and estimates equipment, labor, and material costs.
- Works closely with purchasing clerk on inventory control.
- Makes job safety a priority in all duties.
- Maintains accurate and complete documentation of equipment, systems and related facilities.
- Provides work order estimates that are within 10% of the actual cost.
- Inspection of work orders, verification of staking sheets and As-Builts.
- Interacts with employees and other departments, attends and participates in inter-departmental planning meetings to coordinate and communicate activities related to the successful completion of projects.
- Engineers and prepares work order documentation and Method of Procedure (MOP) for completion of projects associated with areas of responsibility.
- Reviews and makes recommendations to supervisory personnel for new and improved engineering practices and technology.
- Assists in the preparation of short term and long-range planning documents, including projections of growth and demand for existing and new services.
- Trains company employees as requested on topics related to job functions.
- Comply with all policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Company.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, time management and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of telecommunication construction and engineering practices and principals
- Knowledge and/or familiarity with Innovative Solutions (Mapkit) engineering platform a plus
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and forms including work orders, staking sheets, and schematics.
- Ability to communicate with customers, employees, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to make sound business decisions using experience and available information.
- Ability to work within a team environment.
- Ability to Travel
Educational Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience working in an engineering role with an emphasis on outside plant design may be substituted for the degree requirement.
- Familiar with personal computer operations and the basic use of engineering software (i.e. AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, GEO-spatial, Atlas, Crystal Reports).
- Able to read and understand the plant maps, staking sheets, database fields, continuing property units to ensure correct and accurate data posting or to assist technicians and contractors in completing work.
- Demonstrates good work standards and decision-making skills, completing assignments using accepted procedures, and ensuring complete confidentiality of records.
- Ensures customer satisfaction by seeing that needs are met in a realistic time frame and is able to deal with customers in a pleasing and efficient manner under difficult circumstances.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
