The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek an academic Trauma, Critical Care, and Burn Surgeon to join the Department of Surgery. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.

Position Overview
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) and the Division of Trauma Critical Care and Burn Surgery within the Department of Surgery are looking to hire a trauma, critical care, and burn surgeon. The position will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level, and candidates must have completed a fellowship in surgical critical care. This full-time position will cover Ohio State University Main and East Hospitals. The position offers growth potential and a competitive salary and benefits package.

The Division concentrates efforts on clinical care, research, and education related to patients with acute surgical problems. The division delivers high-quality care to patients suffering from surgical critical illness, trauma, emergency general surgery diseases, and burns. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center on the main campus is an established Level I Trauma Center that sees approximately 2,700 trauma patients. Our University Hospital SICU has 38 beds and is staffed by intensivists, fellows, residents, and advanced practice providers. The population includes burns, traumas, non-cardiac transplants, and surgical patients. There is an additional 12-bed oncology SICU in the James Comprehensive Cancer Hospital, staffed by intensivists and advanced practice providers. Patients admitted to the James SAICU have an active cancer diagnosis. Both SICUs engage in a multidisciplinary care model, including the provider teams, nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, dietitians, case managers, and social workers. The SICU is supported in part by a joint surgical critical care and anesthesia critical care fellowship program with six fellows. The SICU has 16 Adult Acute Care Advanced Practice Providers and three specialty pharmacists. The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Burn Program is directed by Dr. Nicole Bernal and is one of only two American Burn Association (ABA) verified adult Burn Centers in Ohio.

The Medical Center has over 1,300 patient beds, performs over 44,000 surgeries per year, and has over 1.7 million annual outpatient visits. Established in 1914, the Ohio State Department of Surgery has a long and respected tradition of excellence in clinical care, research, and education. With Timothy M. Pawlik, MD, PhD, MPH as Chair, the Department of Surgery is composed of nine surgical specialty divisions and seven centers. Collectively, the Department of Surgery performs over 21,000 cases annually and was ranked in the top 10 according to the Blue Ridge rankings for NIH funding and ranked number 6 by Doximity for surgical residency reputation among surgery departments nationally. Requirements
Board Eligible or Certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
Successful completion of a trauma and surgical critical care or a burn and critical care fellowship
Burn Fellowship/Experience desired
Strong Academic Experience in basic science, translational or health services research
Eligible for State of Ohio medical licensure
Qualify for academic appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level - Academic rank and salary
   will be commensurate with previous training and experience

These faculty will have earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research. ?

Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD, DO or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.?

Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
