The driver plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and timely transportation of patients to and from healthcare facilities and their residences. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, a commitment to providing compassionate and reliable transportation services to patients in need, in addition to a good driving record and safe driving habits.
***The role of ambulance driver at FLMT is a special position from which you can grow. IF YOU APPLY FOR THIS JOB YOU MUST BE WILLING TO COMPLETE OUR EMT CLASS AND BECOME AN EMT!***Your education will be sponsored by our company and by the State and you will receive a bonus after a commitment to work for us to complete your apprenticeship for 18 months.
Medical Driver Duties and Responsibilities
- Patient Transportation: Safely transport patients to and from medical appointments, clinics, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities while ensuring their comfort and well-being during transit.
- Adherence to Schedules: Follow assigned schedules and routes to ensure timely arrivals and departures for patients and medical deliveries, taking into account traffic and weather conditions.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Perform regular vehicle inspections to ensure safety and report any maintenance or repair needs promptly. Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the vehicle.
- Documentation: Accurately complete transportation logs, mileage records, and other necessary paperwork, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service by assisting patients in and out of the ambulance and or vehicle, securing their belongings, and addressing any special needs or concerns.
- Safety and Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and traffic laws to ensure the safety of passengers and cargo. Comply with healthcare privacy regulations (HIPAA) when handling patient information.
- Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond calmly and effectively in case of medical emergencies during transportation, including notifying appropriate personnel and following established procedures.
- Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with dispatchers, medical staff, and patients to coordinate transportation arrangements and address any issues or delays.
Medical Driver Requirements and Qualifications
PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU HAVE A PREVIOUS DUI OR MORE THAN. TWO POINTS ON YOUR LICENSE!!
MUST BE ABLE TO ASSIST IN LIFTING OF PATIENTS ON STRETCHERS FOR EVERY TRANSPORT.
YOU MUST BE A KIND, RESPECTFUL PERSON ABLE TO ENGAGE with AND BE POLITE WITH THE ELDERLY COMMUNITY!
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Previous experience in a similar role, such as medical transportation or patient care, is preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Will be provided if not already.
- Strong knowledge of local roadways.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with patients in a compassionate and empathetic manner.
- Physical fitness and the ability to assist patients with mobility needs.
- Dependable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology and familiarity with HIPAA regulations is a plus.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
