Grossing Technician

Lighthouse Lab Services is representing a laboratory seeking a skilled Grossing Technician to join their team. This role plays a critical part in the histology workflow by accurately grossing and preparing tissue specimens for processing and diagnosis in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment.

Schedule: Monday–Friday / Day shift

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical tissue specimens according to standardized protocols

• Accurately describe, measure, and section specimens for histological processing

• Properly label cassettes and ensure specimen integrity and traceability throughout the grossing process

• Maintain accurate documentation and case logs

• Identify and escalate unusual or complex specimens to the Pathologist as appropriate

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the grossing area and comply with all safety and infection control protocols

• Conduct and document routine maintenance of grossing equipment

Qualifications:

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biology, Histology, or related field preferred

• Formal grossing training or on-the-job training under a qualified pathologist

• At least 1 year of experience in a histology or pathology lab preferred

• Familiarity with laboratory safety, specimen handling protocols, and HIPAA compliance

• Must meet applicable CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing personnel, depending on specimen types

Preferred Experience:

• 2+ years of experience in grossing surgical pathology specimens

• Exposure to a high-volume laboratory environment

• Comfortable grossing small to moderately complex tissue specimens
