1:1 K-5 ASL Interpreter | Lewistown, Pennsylvania

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A rewarding opportunity is available for an Educational Interpreter (ASL) to support a Kindergarten student in a 1:1 setting at an elementary school near Lewistown, PA. The student is fully deaf and uses cochlear implants, having some prior experience with sign language during preschool early intervention. This role is ideal for an interpreter with experience in Grades K-5, fortable working fully onsite, and ready to provide vital munication support as the student transitions into elementary school.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one ASL interpreting services for a Kindergarten student who is fully deaf.
• Facilitate effective munication between the student, teachers, and peers.
• Collaborate with another onsite interpreter who supports a 2nd-grade student, offering peer support and resources as needed.
• Adapt interpreting techniques based on the students evolving munication needs and educational environment.
• Participate in team meetings and maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Proficient in American Sign Language with experience supporting young children in educational settings.
• Understanding of hearing impairments and cochlear implant technology.
• Ability to work closely with educators and school staff.
• Prior experience interpreting for elementary grade levels, particularly K-5.
• Strong munication skills and flexibility to work onsite throughout the school year.

Location:

• Elementary school within a 20-minute mute from Penn State and approximately an hour from Harrisburg, PA.
