The Assistant Manager at The UPS Store will assist in managing day-to-day store operations, delivering a world-class customer experience to customers and team members, maintaining a clean and organized store environment, and supporting team members. This role offers a chance to grow professionally within the retail and shipping services industry while helping drive the store’s success.
The ideal candidate has previous managerial experience, strong computer and internet skills, a high school diploma or GED, a friendly and genuinely helpful demeanor, and a professional appearance. He or she must be a fast learner who tries to learn all aspects of the business in the shortest possible time.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Delivers an excellent customer experience and outstanding customer service to walk-in and virtual customers and telephone inquiries
- Must be willing to become a Notary Public in your State/County (if not obtained already)
- Assist in tracking store performance metrics and implementing improvements to meet operational goals
- Ensure the store is compliant with company policies and local regulations, including shipping and safety standards
- Handle customer complaints, difficult situations, and operational challenges professionally and efficiently
- Help promote and sell a range of products and services (shipping, packaging, postal products, and other retail items). Ensure that all sales targets are met or exceeded
- Assist in supervising, training, and coaching team members. Foster a positive work environment to encourage employee performance and satisfaction
- Assist with opening and closing the store, cash handling, and ensuring the store is properly stocked and organized. Monitor inventory and restock as needed
- Takes ownership of the customer's shipping needs and offers viable solutions
- Takes action to learn all product and service offerings, alternative solutions, and industry trends
- Operates all equipment, software, and devices in an expert fashion and is willing to teach others
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe working environment
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED recommended
- Must be flexible with work hours, including evenings and weekends
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to multitask, solve problems quickly, and handle challenging situations
- Retail/customer service experience
- Great communication and people skills
- Able to cross-sell and up-sell products and services
- Excellent packing skills
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Suites
- Outstanding phone and email skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including spelling and math
- Prompt, reliable, and responsible
- Able to lift 40+ pounds
