Job Description
Robert Half has partnered with a stable and growing nonprofit organization based in Durham, North Carolina to assist them in hiring a Staff Accountant. A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration and at least 3 years of accounting experience is required for consideration. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. This role requires experience in bank and account reconciliations, month-end close processes, preparing journal entries, and managing sales tax reporting.
Responsibilities:
• Perform timely reconciliations of bank accounts, addressing discrepancies to ensure accurate financial records.
• Reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts, identifying and resolving any discrepancies.
• Assist in month-end close procedures by preparing and posting journal entries and generating financial statements.
• Calculate and file sales tax reports accurately, ensuring compliance with state regulations.
• Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
• Support the preparation of internal and external financial reports in accordance with organizational requirements.
• Stay up-to-date on nonprofit accounting practices and ensure adherence to regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with the finance team and other departments to achieve organizational financial objectives.
• Provide assistance during audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.• At least 3 years of accounting experience, with nonprofit experience preferred.
• Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks and advanced Excel skills.
• Strong understanding of general ledger, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
• Familiarity with fund accounting practices and sales tax reporting requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage deadlines effectively.
