Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week ICU travel contract at a Level II Trauma facility in Nebraska, working 12-hour night shifts with a 50-mile radius requirement.

  • Acute care ICU setting at a Level II Trauma facility
  • \n
  • 33-bed ICU unit with an average daily census of 16 patients
  • \n
  • Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, stroke, sepsis, overdose/substance abuse, post-stent, pacemaker placement, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
  • \n
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3 for adult patients
  • \n
  • RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
  • \n
  • RNs must read, interpret, and document telemetry strips; GE monitors are used with tele tech oversight
  • \n
  • Respiratory equipment ranges from nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation
  • \n
  • EMR: Epic
  • \n
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
  • \n
  • Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required
  • \n
  • Floating may occur to PCU (1:4 ratio) or occasionally Med/Surg (1:5 ratio)
  • \n
  • On-call response time is 30 minutes if called back in after being placed on call
  • \n
  • Nurse aides are available based on census; Healthcare Support Tech available 3 days per week (M–F, 0800–1630)
  • \n
Requirements\n
    \n
  • Active NE RN license or Compact (NLC) license currently in hand — pending licenses not accepted
  • \n
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required
  • \n
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
  • \n
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • \n
  • Active driver's license required for consideration, used to verify residence is at least 50 miles from the facility
  • \n
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • \n

  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • \n
  • Candidates may not be currently or recently employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health, within the past year; candidates placed PRN through outside firms will be considered
  • \n
  • Unit-specific orientation consists of 1 shift
  • \n
  • A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on Wednesdays during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure may result to contract termination
  • \n
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove them may result in contract termination
  • \n
  • Minimum of 2 holidays falling within the contract period are required
  • \n
  • RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
  • \n
  • Block scheduling is not available except for weekends only
  • \n
  • Self-scheduling applies to core staff; travelers are added to the schedule after core staff
