We are currently seeking an experienced Inpatient Medical Coder to join our dynamic and fast-paced team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in accurately coding patient records for our inpatient services. This is a fantastic opportunity to utilize your coding skills and knowledge in a challenging and rewarding environment, working with a variety of medical specialties and interacting with our dedicated healthcare professionals.
This will be a part-time role averaging 10-20 hours per week, however there is potential for the role to be converted to full-time in 2026.

Responsibilities
1. Reviewing and analyzing patient records to accurately assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for all diagnoses and procedures.
2. Working closely with healthcare providers to clarify ambiguous or conflicting patient information.
3. Ensuring compliance with established coding guidelines, third-party reimbursement policies, and federal regulations.
4. Conducting regular audits to ensure coding accuracy, completeness, and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
5. Utilizing various coding software and systems, including Medhost and Athena, to facilitate coding processes and maintain patient data.
6. Assisting in the development and implementation of coding policies and procedures to improve the efficiency and quality of our coding practices.
7. Providing ongoing coding education to our healthcare providers to ensure accurate and consistent coding practices.
Qualifications
1. A minimum of 3 years of experience in inpatient medical coding, specifically within an acute care setting.
2. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) certification.
3. Proficiency in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems.
4. Extensive experience with surgical coding.
5. Familiarity with various medical coding software and systems, such as Medhost and Athena.
6. Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and the ability to ensure compliance.
7. Knowledge of MS-DRG classification and reimbursement structures.
8. Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
9. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with healthcare providers and other members of our team.
