div div div div div pstrongFLSA Status:/strongnbsp;Non-exempt and Exempt/p /div div pstrongGrade:/strongnbsp;U10, U11, and U12/p /div div pstrongRevision Date:/strongnbsp;November 16, 2015/p /div div pstrongLocation:/strongnbsp;Stonehouse Elementary School/p /div /div /div /div /div div div div div div h2Job Summary/h2 /div div pThe Interpreter/Transliteratorrsquo;s primary function is to act as the facilitator of communication between the student with a hearing impairment, teachers, fellow students and other personnel in the building./p /div div h2Duties and Responsibilities/h2 /div div ul liInterprets/transliterates the message, conveying content and spirit of the speaker./li liInterprets/transliterates all classroom discussion and conversations./li liRespects confidentiality in all areas of their interpreting/transliterating assignments./li liResearches current signs for special vocabulary prior to need./li liMeets with students to discuss signs for class related vocabulary./li liFosters independence in students/li liAvoids advising, counseling, or interjecting personal opinions into the interpreted/transliterated instruction or within the educational assignment./li liActs as a member of the educational team by: ul liFacilitating information between the student and team members/li liProviding input about the studentrsquo;s preferred language/communication (i.e.: ASL/PSE) method and their needs/strengths within that mode of communication/li liProvides information to the team and student about appropriate use of interpreter and understanding the interpreterrsquo;s role/li /ul /li liActs so as not to be utilized as an instructor, tutor, or aide in the school setting./li liStrives to maintain high professional standards in compliance with the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and Hard of Hearingrsquo;s Code of Professional Conduct./li liDresses in a manner appropriate to the interpreting profession and educational setting./li liModels the WJCC Strategic Plan Values: Individualism, Integrity, Innovation, Accountability and Collaboration./li liPerforms other duties as assigned./li /ul /div div h2Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)/h2 /div div ul liInterpreter/Transliterator must hold a VQAS level III, EIPA 3.5, or NIC certification/li liInterpreter/Transliterator shall strive to further their knowledge and skills through participation in workshops, professional meetings, interaction with professional colleagues, and reading of current literature in the field./li /ul /div div h2Supervision Exercised/h2 /div div pNone./p /div div h2Supervision Received/h2 /div div pPerforms duties under the supervision the principal and/or principal designee of the school to which they are assigned/p /div div h2Working Conditions and Physical Requirements/h2 /div div pMust have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact as defined by the ability to see, read, talk, and hear; may require long periods of standing; significant use of hands and upper body./p /div /div /div /div /div
