h2About the Department/h2pp style="margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-align:justify;"Assist law enforcement personnel in performing non-hazardous duties and to provide the public with a variety of community services. /p/ph2Position Duties/h2pullip style="margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;"Regular attendance and completion of pre-service training provided by the Hobbs Police Department. /p/lilip style="margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;"Applicants must have passed the police officer’s entrance examination and other required examinations as determined by the Hobbs Police Department.  Upon completion of training program PSA’s will assist with the following:  Non-injury traffic crashes, traffic control, motorist assistance, towing of vehicles, parking enforcement, funeral escorts, vandalism/found property/petty larceny reports, close patrols of residences/businesses, other not in progress calls as determined by the Hobbs Police Department in which no or minimal follow up investigation is required.  /p/lilip style="margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;"The PSA is required to perform the duties of this position. /p/lilip style="margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;"Works on assigned shift using own judgment in deciding course of action, expected to handle situations under the direction of the Field Service Division (FSD) supervisor. /p/lilip style="margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;"Works mandatory extra duty assignments as needed./p/lilip style="margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;"Maintains normal availability by radio or telephone for consultation on major emergencies. /p/lilip style="margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;"Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State and City laws and ordinances. /p/lilip style="margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;"Assists traffic and patrol officers in investigation of non-life-threatening calls for service.  /p/lilip style="margin-top: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;"Patrols city streets, parks, commercial and residential areas as directed by field supervisors. The majority of the time, heavy physical activity is not required.  However, a Police Service Aide needs to be able to actively respond to situation deemed appropriate by supervisors.br brWhile performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, lift, talk and hear.  The employee is routinely required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, and controls; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch,  crawl,  taste and smell.  The employee must be able to operate all authorized and issued equipment and motor vehicle.br brThe employee must occasionally lift and/or move heavy objects or people.  The employee may also be required to complete the following fitness screening.br brVision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Minimum vision abilities set by the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy are as follows: uncorrected distance vision should be no more than 20/100, correctable to at least 20/30; near vision correctable to at least 20/40; color vision correct reading of at least nine or more of the first thirteen plates of the Ishihara test; depth perception should be sufficient to demonstrate normal stereo depth perception with/without correction to the standard-100 ARC seconds.   Minimal hearing acuity should be the average hearing level at the test frequencies, 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz will not exceed 25dB in either ear, and no single hearing level will exceed 30dB at any of these test frequencies in either ear.  Hearing loss at 3000Hz will not exceed 40dB HL in either ear.  State or New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy requirements shall be the minimum standards applicable.br bruWORK ENVIRONMENT/ubr brThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions.
