An appreciation of the art of music will be developed in each student to include:/pulliArtistic Perception – Teach students to read, write, and listen to and describe music/liliCreative Expression – Train students to sing a repertoire of vocal literature representing various genres, styles, and cultures with expression, good posture, and tone quality/liliHistorical and Cultural Context – Teach students to understand and analyze the historical and cultural roots of music/liliMusic Appreciation – Aid students in deriving meaning from, and responding to, various works of music/li/ulpThe music teacher is responsible for leading the congregational singing and providing instrumental accompaniment at assigned weekend Masses. This role requires the ability to work in a Catholic environment of kindness, compassion, respect, integrity, mutual charity, and dignity. The musician must work collegially with other ministers in providing a music program that supports a dynamic and inspiring worship community reflective of the core values of the Catholic Church and St. Rose of Lima School.nbsp;/ppbr//ppstrongTeaching Responsibilities:/strong/pulliPlan and deliver music instruction for students TK-8, creating lesson plans by utilizing repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the various ages, grade levels, and skill levels of students according to developmental ability./liliTeach skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music/liliLead and direct school choir and/or musicians/liliPrepare students for school liturgies once a month on weekends and be present for those Masses/liliPrepare students for weekday weekly school liturgies and provide the music for those Massesnbsp;/liliPlan, coordinate, rehearse, and conduct musical performances such as the Advent Program, Grandparents Day, Lenten Stations of the Cross, May Crowning, and any other musical events in which students are expected to perform as representatives of the school/liliEstablish and maintain standards of productive and respectful classroom management that are aligned with Catholic values/liliEstablish a positive, encouraging rapport with students that honors all ability levels/liliAssess and drive student growth through formative and summative assessments/liliCommunicate effectively with parents/liliProvide sacred music at special liturgies as needed, such as Holy Days of Obligationnbsp;/liliInvite, encourage, and enhance assembly participation in the sacred musicnbsp;/liliEnsure ongoing expansion of the school’s music repertoirenbsp;/liliCollaborate with the pastor and parish’s liturgy coordinator in the selection of appropriate liturgical music for Massesnbsp;/liliEnsure that the parish musical instruments and audio equipment are maintained, repaired, tuned, and operational as needednbsp;/liliCertify that all liturgical musicians and choir members are well-versed in the liturgy of the Church and the propriety of their duties, including an understanding of the rubrics of the Church/liliAttain copyright permission for music as necessary/liliProvide musical input and copyright information for the preparation of worship aids/liliOther duties as assigned/li/ulpRequirements/ppbr//ppstrongReligious Qualifications:/strong/pulliActive, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)/liliRespects and understands a Catholic school philosophy/li/ulpstrongProfessional Qualifications:/strong/pulliPossess a cleared California multiple subject teaching credential (preferred)/liliPossess a Bachelor’s Degree/liliClear criminal background check (a clear Livescan for the Diocese of San Diego is a condition of employment)/liliExperience teaching in an elementary school classroom/liliPositive professional references and recommendation/lilinbsp;Demonstrable skill leading the congregation in prayerful participation in the liturgynbsp;/liliEffective in directing amateur musicians and vocalists as needednbsp;/liliAbility to “sight read” music/liliSinging voice appropriate for teaching choir/liliProficiency in playing at least one musical instrument/liliKnowledge of sacred and secular music/liliAbility to communicate musical concepts effectively/liliFriendly with excellent people and communication skillsnbsp;/liliAbility to work flexible hoursnbsp;/liliAbility to follow and take directions from a supervisornbsp;/liliA faithful member of a Catholic parish communitynbsp;/liliAbility to sing in English, Spanish, and/or Tagalog a plusnbsp;/li/ulpstrongPhysical Requirements: /strongTo successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:/pulliSpend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstrating/liliSit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc./liliWalk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks. Walk on both even and uneven surfaces/liliDeal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bending/liliReach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the class/liliAssist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classrooms/li/ulpWhile performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events.
