Therefore, Pilgrim’s is committed to food safety and the reduction of foodborne brpathogens across our vertically integrated business. In this part time position, there will be bropportunities to assist with many of the innovative food safety research projects being conducted by brPilgrim’s to improve and lead poultry food safety. More specifically, these research projects focus bron the industry applications of novel pre-harvest and post-harvest interventions aimed to reduce brpathogen loads, and therefore, ultimately reduce consumer risk of foodborne illness related to brchicken consumption. Involvement in hands-on microbiological laboratory experience ranging from brthe basics, like setting Petrifilm™, to working with advanced molecular technologies, such as PCR. brAdditionally, exposure to the poultry business, both at the plant level and the live production level, brwill be provided for a better understanding of the poultry business as a whole.brResponsibilities: Duties include:br• On farm or in the processing plant collection of samples.br• Prepares medias, reagents and solutions required for tests.br• Performs laboratory tests according to prescribed standards.br• Starts and operates laboratory equipment and instruments.br• Cleans laboratory equipment, glassware, supplies, and lab as needed for projects.br• Recording, analyzing and reporting of project results.br• Assisting with project summaries and write-ups, including possible publications.br• Other duties as assigned.brRequirements and/or Qualifications: br• Education: Poultry Science, Food Science, Animal Science, or Pre-Vet student; completion brof courses in biology, microbiology, animal science, and/or statistics preferredbr• Experience and/or Expertise: Microbiology laboratory experience preferred, particularly brwith the pathogens Salmonella and/or Campylobacter.br• Difficulty of Duties: Ability to work independently at times after receiving proper technical brtraining.br• Computer Skills: Basic knowledge of computer systems and Microsoft Office products brincluding Excel. br• Availability: Willingness to occasionally work outside of normal business hours, may brrequire availability during nights and weekends.brManagerial Duties: NonebrPosition Reports To: Laboratory Manager (Research Manager Assistance)brLocation: Athens, GA laboratory/pp /ppb style="background-repeat: no-repeat;outline: none;font-weight: bold;color: rgb(36,36,36);font-family: Calibri , sans-serif;font-size: 14.6667px;font-style: normal;letter-spacing: normal;text-indent: 0.0px;text-transform: none;word-spacing: 0.0px;"span style="background: white;outline: none;"EOE, including disability/vets. /span/b/p
