Work Environment: 80% Outdoor Work
Compensation: Based on experience

About the Role
We are seeking a Field Research Assistant to support our agricultural research and operational activities at the Myakka City R&D Center. This is a physically active, hands-on role that requires a high level of comfort working outdoors year-round in Florida’s climate. The ideal candidate will work closely with Field Scientists and Research Associates to support a wide range of research plots and agricultural operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with crop scouting to identify pests, diseases, and growth issues
- Support crop maintenance through recommendations and hands-on tasks
- Operate landscaping and field maintenance equipment (mower, trimmer)
- Maintain research plots: staking, tying, weeding, and general upkeep
- Plant and transplant seedlings by hand
- Harvest fruits and vegetables manually
- Assist with tractor operations and machinery use under supervision
- Pull tractor-drawn or self-propelled equipment for soil prep and crop maintenance
- Participate in post-harvest processing: inspection, grading, sorting, and storage
- Set up and operate irrigation systems
- Apply pesticides and fertilizers under supervision
- Perform basic repair of farm structures (fences, buildings, etc.)
- Support other general agricultural duties as needed
Qualifications & Requirements
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors in Florida’s weather year-round
- Physical stamina and ability to perform labor-intensive tasks
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills
- Flexibility to work extended hours during peak planting and harvesting seasons
- Prior experience with farm equipment or agricultural work is a plus but not required
- Valid driver’s license preferred
Preferred Skills
- Experience in horticulture, agronomy, or agricultural operations
- Familiarity with irrigation systems, crop scouting, and plant health evaluation
- Basic knowledge of farm machinery and tools
- Attention to detail and ability to follow safety protocols
