About the position
The Equipment Operator - HDD position involves operating horizontal/directional drills and various other construction equipment at job sites. The primary responsibility of the equipment operator is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of machinery while adhering to safety protocols and guidelines. This role requires the operator to assist in various duties around the job site as needed, which may include performing laborer tasks and maintaining the work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure the safety of the crew. The job operates in a field environment, which means that the operator will be exposed to various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. The position demands physical stamina, as it routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and twisting. The operator must also visually assess digging areas to ensure they have been properly staked and located before commencing any digging activities. Additionally, the operator is responsible for performing service and safety checks on equipment, including checking oil and fluids, securing loads, and conducting minor repairs as necessary. Reading blueprints and organizing materials are also essential tasks to complete excavation requirements effectively.
Responsibilities
· Operate various construction equipment including mini excavators, and horizontal/directional drills.
· Visually assess digging areas to ensure proper staking and location before digging.
· Perform service and safety checks on equipment, including checking oil and fluids and conducting minor repairs.
· Perform laborer duties as needed around the job site.
· Read blueprints and organize materials to complete excavation requirements.
· Maintain a neat and orderly work area to ensure safety for the crew.
· Report any unsafe conditions or practices to the appropriate supervisor.
· Correct any unsafe conditions to the best of one's ability.
Requirements
· Experience operating mini excavator equipment.
· Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting.
· Knowledge of safety protocols and ability to perform safety checks on equipment.
· Basic understanding of blueprints and excavation requirements.
· CDL (Commercial Driver's License) preferred.
