Position Summary
The Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting and promoting a proactive safety culture through compliance, coaching, training, and continuous improvement. The position requires a strong shop floor presence (approximately 80%), working closely with associates and leadership to drive safe practices, ergonomic improvements, and legal compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct safety assessments, ergonomic evaluations, and lead incident investigations with timely and effective corrective actions.
Lead 5S audits and safety inspections; ensure findings are documented and addressed.
Coordinate internal and external audits related to health, safety, and environmental compliance.
Support accident and incident investigations, track root causes, and implement follow-up measures.
Promote employee engagement in safety culture, including incident reporting and adherence to company policies.
Oversee selection and cost-effective use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Stay updated on legislative changes and communicate new safety and environmental requirements to management.
Maintain detailed records and safety documentation in accordance with internal procedures and legal standards.
Create and analyze safety reports (daily, weekly, monthly, annual) to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
Participate in equipment selection and layout planning to ensure legal safety and ergonomic compliance.
Develop, schedule, and conduct safety training as required by corporate and legal programs.
Ensure contractors and subcontractors are aware of and compliant with all site-specific safety procedures.
Support ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 initiatives including audits, training, and compliance activities.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
Certified Safety Training as per local legal requirements.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of manufacturing experience, preferably in the automotive industry.
Hands-on knowledge of workplace safety, compliance, risk assessment, and ergonomic practices.
Familiarity with ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001/45001, and 5S methodology is preferred.
Experience in environments with established “Safety Culture” practices is an asset.
Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Proven ability to analyze data, conduct investigations, and implement practical solutions.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Knowledge of emergency response planning, safety training delivery, and contractor safety compliance.
