They are expected to utilize complex problem solving skills in resolving clinical and instrument problems. This position requires exercise of independent judgment, theoretical knowledge and responsibility. They are to follow all regulatory lab requirements and act as the subject matter expert in a key specialty area./pp/ppbRESPONSIBILITIES/b/pullipCorrectly performs testing in an accurate and timely manner. /p/lilipInterprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history, diagnosis and clinical condition in order to explain test results (normal/abnormal) so that appropriate action can be taken. /p/lilipCommunicates stat and critical lab results and prolonged instrument malfunctions causing delays in test results to physicians, nursing units and other appropriate medical personnel./p/lilipPerformance of QC, routine and advanced maintenance and analyze/instrument troubleshooting activities./p/lilipAccurately prepares reagents and maintains proper inventory of laboratory section supplies with appropriate cost containment in mind./p/lilipMaintains knowledge of required computer functions associated with ordering testing, performing testing, resulting testing and calling up various reports to assist in completing testing and the management of workflow./p/lilipTeaches in the School of Medical Technology and Lab rotations as called upon to do so./p/lilipMeets all regulatory lab requirements consistently. /p/lilipAdditional duties and responsibilities as requested by manager. /p/lilipAct as technology consultant or key operator for an area or instrumentation./p/lilipCoordinate or assist in training/development of new and current procedures./p/lilipCoordinate department instructional programs for the RGH CLT program./p/lilipPerform “extra” or advanced maintenance and/or troubleshooting activities, including Advanced Preventative Maintenance, QC/Validations for minor equipment (centrifuges, pipettes, etc.)./p/lilipParticipation in Regulatory preparation, such as routine Audits/Tracers./p/lilipInvolvement in department Quality Improvement Project and/or Department QA/QM monitors./p/lilipParticipation in Department, Location or System-wide committee or project./p/lilipAssistance with inventory management (e.g. assigned inventory list)./p/lilipApproval to write or modify Standard Operating Procedures for new or existing procedures./p/lilipParticipation in Peer Interviewing activities for new hires./p/li/ulp/ppbREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/b/pullipspanBS in Medical Technology or BS in a related Science (Biology, Chemistry, or The Physical Sciences) and/or equivalent relevant experience as recognized by New York State Department of Education for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
