Services and maintains well heads, booster pumps, chemical feed pumps and calibrates treatment process equipment. Takes daily water quality samples and ensures they meet standards. Investigates the cause of any contamination and resolves the contamination issue./ph2Position Duties/h2pemThe following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essentials duties may not change, specific work tasks may vary over time depending on the City's needs./embrbrul style="list-style-type: disc"liPerform water facility site inspections; sample water supplies; verify that well water quality meets adequate water quality standards; investigate the cause of any water samples that do not meet quality standards; calibrate and maintain water sampling equipment./liliRespond to customer complaints and inquiries related to water quality and usage./liliMaintain and repair water treatment facilities, valves and booster stations; ensure that water flow meets demands./liliMake recommendations on equipment repairs and replacement./liliClean up debris from water line areas; manage plant growth in and near service lines, wells and hydrants; inspect and clear obstructions as needed; perform work in emergency situations as required./liliOperate equipment such as pick-up trucks, dump trucks, backhoe, power tools and hand tools or other equipment; clean and maintain equipment as required./liliUtilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed; install barricades and cones prior to the performance of repair activities; assist in directing and controlling traffic around work sites; adhere to safety requirements for open trench work and digging near power lines./liliSupport the Water District’s policies, goals and objectives and work with management and other staff to ethically achieve such goals and objectives; ensure compliance with safety procedures./li/ul/ph2Minimum Qualifications/h2puEducation and Experience/ubrMust possess a high school diploma or GED, and three (3) years paid full-time experience in a water distribution or treatment operation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.brbrPrior to appointment, must possess:ul style="list-style-type: disc;"liArizona Grade II Water Distribution System Operator Certificate/liliArizona Grade II Water Treatment Operator Certificate/liliRespirator Certification/li/ul/ph2Other Qualifications/h2puKnowledge/uul style="list-style-type: disc; margin-bottom: 3pt;"liCity, District and Department procedures, policies and guidelines; City Code; Arizona Revised Statutes; Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) laws, regulations and standards; Arizona Department of Environmental Quality standards./liliProcesses and procedures involved in sampling and treating water supplies./liliGeneral tools and equipment used in installation, maintenance and repair activities including respirator, high pressure vacuum, service line remote locator and backhoe./li/ulbruSkills/uul style="list-style-type: disc; margin-bottom: 3pt;"liEstablishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely; following instructions./liliWorking with various chemicals used in water sampling and treatment./liliCreating and maintaining a safe work environment./liliFollowing strict safety standards, guidelines and procedures when operating equipment./li/ulbruPre-employment Requirements/ubrCandidates who are selected for appointment may be required to be fingerprinted, if 18 or older; successfully complete a background investigation, employment verification and may be subject to a drug/alcohol test, medical, polygraph and/or psychological evaluation. Work includes walking and operation of a vehicle and construction related equipment. Requires moderate exertion and lifting carrying objects between 50 and 100 pounds, repeated bending, stooping and reaching above the head daily. Performs construction and maintenance functions requiring visual and manual dexterity and precision measurements and continuous repetitive arm, hand and eye movement. May be exposed to high voltage and hazardous chemicals. May be required to work overtime or extended hours during emergency conditions./p
