Our client, a leading manufacturer of institutional-grade furniture, is looking to add a highly skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer to their team in Clifton, NJ. Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineer will support product development and engineering operations with a strong focus on CAD modeling, 3D scanning, and data management. This role is essential to maintaining the accuracy and consistency of engineering documentation, especially for mobile table and casework product lines. You’ll collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, and Factory teams to refine designs, implement changes, and introduce new products to market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Digitize furniture components using 3D scanning technology; integrate scanned models into SolidWorks.

  • Compare scanned parts with existing CAD and production drawings; resolve discrepancies and update documentation.

  • Prepare and manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to communicate revisions effectively to factories.

  • Organize and maintain part and assembly files within the Product Data Management (PDM) system, ensuring version control and data reliability.

  • Standardize file naming and directory structures to improve accessibility and scalability.

  • Assist in migrating legacy products into the PDM system.

  • Research and analyze competitor products for music and science casework lines.

  • Design and model new casework products based on market trends and customer feedback.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to align product specs with production capabilities.

  • Provide technical support and documentation best practices across departments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.

  • 6+ years of experience in product design and manufacturing, with expertise in SolidWorks and PDM systems.

  • Hands-on experience with 3D scanners and incorporating scanned data into CAD models.

  • Proven ability to create and manage ECNs in a manufacturing environment.

  • Meticulous attention to detail and a strong focus on data accuracy.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with sheet metal, tubing, and welded assemblies is a plus.

  • Strong reverse-engineering and analytical skills.

  • Independent, self-driven, and comfortable working in a CAD/PDM-heavy role.

  • Must be able to work on-site at the Clifton, NJ facility.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with furniture product design is a strong plus.

  • Familiarity with school/institutional furniture standards.

  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
