SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager, performs clerical, receptionist, and communication duties at the nursing station.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- The ability to push medical record carts, or residents in wheelchairs; the ability to lift trays or charts in excess of 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and move office or nursing supplies in excess of 25 pounds.
- Ability to speak effectively before residents, visitors, management and co-workers.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Proficient in use of computer, email and MS Office (Outlook, Excel and Word).
Essential Functions:
- Answers and transfers incoming telephone calls; takes and delivers phone messages.
- Greets residents, physicians, and public at nursing station.
- Records name of resident, room number, patient number and name of attending physician on all medical records forms.
- Updates and keeps charts current regarding certification and renewal of physician's orders.
- Informs Nurse Manager when physician rounds are due.
- Copies information (weight, temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) from nurses' TPR register to graphic chart forms.
- Writes requisitions for laboratory tests and procedures, x-rays, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, and diet changes.
- Checks stock of supplies on nursing unit and prepares requisitions to maintain established inventories.
- Accompanies residents to hospital in ambulance. (Occasionally)
- Accompanies residents on doctor's visits.
- Projects a positive image of the nursing home in dealing with residents, families, co-workers, and the public.
- Adheres to organization, federal and state regulations and guidelines, including Resident Right.
- Participates in orientation and training and inservice programs.
- Controls angry feelings and maintains a calming manner.
- Assists other staff members as needed within the limits of training.
- Abides by Nursing Department policies, practices and standards of care.
- Must be able to lift without restrictions.
- Other duties as assigned.
