Summary:

The role of the Pipefitter consists of applying standard practices and procedures for the pneumatic and hydraulic assembly of automated assembly and welding systems used in the aerospace industry from onset to installation at the customer facility.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cut, thread, or hammer pipes to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders, or pipe benders.
  • Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, or related equipment, according to blueprints.
  • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair, according to specifications.
  • Ensure all requirements as specified by the manufacturer of systems and fixtures are met.
  • Inspect, examine, or test installed systems or pipelines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
  • Sets working pressures, valve sequencing, hydraulic pressures, etc. Familiar with component functions (hydraulic and pneumatic valves, check valves, ball valves, FRL's, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School degree or GED preferred.
  • Apprenticeship or technical school preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in an equivalent position.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements:

  • This position may require a government security clearance.

Environment Type:

  • Indoors. Production and office environment. Temperature controlled, unless products and/or equipment is located outdoors.

Work Hours:

  • Standard work schedule, overtime may be necessary for meeting deadlines, required travel, and emergent conditions.

Travel Requirements:

  • This position may involve travel up to 10% of the time.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Operate a motor vehicle and/or heavy equipment.
  • Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
  • Read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and operation of machines.
