Job Description
As a Scheduler you will be responsible for completing tasks such as answering multi-line phone system, scheduling patients, insurance verification, scheduling appointments, confirming appointments, updating insurance information, collecting patient balances over the phone, explaining balances, coordinating services, communicating with the referring community and pharmacies, and various other patient related tasks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· Working knowledge of system applications, equipment, and workflow processes
· Proven analytical, investigative, and creative problem-solving skills
· Ability to multi-task in a fast paced and goal driven environment with minimal supervision
· Introductory knowledge of CPT and ICD Coding
· Ability to organize and coordinate work efficiently and set priorities
· Must be able to communicate calmly, compassionately, and professionally with all patients, external, and internal contacts
· Knowledge of healthcare billing, collections practices, and/or behavioral health services a plus
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
· Contacts insurance plans to determine eligibility and obtain coverage and benefit information
· Verifies and updates patient demographic information patient; recording patient data; confirming purpose of visit, insurance, emails and phone numbers
· Schedules according to visit type, provider, and location rules
· Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; keeping patient information confidential
· Counsels patients by transmitting questions about care and medications to appropriate provider or therapist
· Schedules appointments by entering information into EMR software, verifying times, and locations with patients
· Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations
· Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
· Serves and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements
· Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
· The demonstration of ethical and professional conduct, including the ability to maintain confidentiality (HIPAA)
· Performs other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit.
· The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position while performing the essential duties of this position
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include: close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
· Inside environment only with light background noise
· Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
