SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Pre-employment transition Job Coaches will provide training and support services to high school students or young adults in a local workplace or similar setting as they explore real-world careers. Students may have a range of intellectual or physical disabilities or related conditions such as social, emotional, or behavioral needs. Job Coaches will provide specialized guidance, direction, and support to increase participant self-efficacy and independence as an outcome of their work-based learning experience. Job Coaches facilitate person-centered, effective, supportive relationships with students using positive approaches that promote self-determination in all areas of life. Job Coaches will work one-on-one with participants through a 5 to 8-week experience based on the student needs and trainer’s availability. Schedules may vary according to participants' activities and worksite placement. Job Coaches work collaboratively with other Community Knights staff under the supervision of a Coaching Coordinator. The hourly pay scale for this role varies according to the applicant’s education and experience. Successful candidates are required to undergo a background check. Good driving record and ability to assist in our Knight Rides program to transport participants is a plus, but not required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job Coaches will
- develop a relationship of mutual trust and respect with assigned students and their families.
- assist students with navigating the social aspects of the workplace, including addressing soft skills necessary for work success. Examples of soft skills include communication, collaboration, time management, and problem solving.
- assess professional strengths, weaknesses, and needs of participants in the workplace or volunteer setting..
- plan and implement modifications and support strategies, as needed in collaboration with Community Knights supervisor and worksite staff as appropriate.
- maintain and submit records of participant attendance and progress toward identified goals including challenges and successes.
- communicate and interact with participants and colleagues regularly regarding specific job duties.
- participate in bi-weekly meetings with Coaching Coordinator and other staff to facilitate collaboration, communication, community-building and professional learning.
- assume self-direction as appropriate to solve problems and act on opportunities while maintaining good communication with the designated supervisor to ensure appropriateness of the actions taken.
- have access to a secure personal computer necessary to access relevant materials and facilitate documentation of all case work consistent with program policies and timelines.
- maintain confidentiality of participant and organizational information as indicated in the Community Knights policies.
- have safe and reliable transportation to various worksites located in Newport News, Hampton, and York County, VA.
