Job Title: Field Technician Lead

Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt, At-Will

Reports to: Field Operations Supervisor

Department: Customer Support

Location: Onsite: Yuba City, CA.

Location Status: Work will be primarily performed at a designated field worksite location based out of a central Race Communications worksite. Frequent travel to and work from other Race offices or other off-site locations will be required.

Summary:

As the Field Technician Lead, you will play a critical role in overseeing and coordinating field operations, ensuring the successful deployment, maintenance, and repair of our telecommunications infrastructure. Your strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to excellence will drive the success of our field operations and contribute to the seamless delivery of telecom services to our customers.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Eligibility for US Employment without sponsorship
  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred
  • A valid California driver's license, subject to successful verification through a DMV check, is mandatory
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in telecommunications field operations, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Proven technical knowledge of telecommunications equipment and services
  • Ability to work offset shifts, which include Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10:00a to 7:00p
  • Proficiency in Spanish Language a plus
  • The ability to effectively communicate in English, including speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension, as necessary for effective job performance and workplace communication
  • Proficiency in Spanish Language is desirable


Skills:

  • Proficient use of MS Office applications including Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; teleconferencing applications
  • Functional use of common office equipment, computers, and office software

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for the field technician team. Lead and guide a team of field technicians to ensure efficient execution of tasks and projects.
  • Provides technical expertise and troubleshooting support for complex telecom issues

Field Operations Management:

  • Plans, organizes, and prioritizes field operations to meet project deadlines and service level agreements
  • Coordinates with other departments and stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of telecom services


Deployment and Installation:

  • Oversees the installation and commissioning of telecom equipment, ensuring adherence to industry standards, safety protocols, and quality guidelines


Maintenance and Repairs:

  • Supervises and participates in the troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of telecom equipment and network infrastructure.
  • Identifies and resolves technical issues promptly to minimize service disruptions


Quality Assurance:

  • Ensures the work performed by the field technician team meets company standards and customer expectations.
  • Conducts quality checks and audits to maintain service excellence


Training and Development:

  • Trains and mentors field technicians, facilitating their skill development and growth
  • Stays updated with the latest telecom technologies and industry trends to enhance the team's capabilities


Health and Safety:

  • Upholds and enforces safety policies and procedures, promoting a culture of safety awareness among the field technician team


Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintains accurate records of field activities, equipment inventory, and service reports
  • Provides regular reports to management on the status of field operations, challenges faced, and recommendations for improvement


Customer Relations:

  • Interacts with customers in a professional and courteous manner, addressing their concerns and providing technical assistance when necessary


Equipment and Inventory Management:

  • Manages equipment inventory, ensuring availability and proper maintenance of tools, test equipment, and materials required for field operations


Equipment Operations and Site Maintenance:

  • Operates mechanized equipment such as a bucket truck, excavators, and trencher
  • Climbs poles up to 40 feet and operates in bucket trucks with 32’ plus ladders-Aerial ONLY
  • Manages deployment and removal of traffic control devices to ensure safety in work areas on streets or roadways
  • Adheres to and operates within the weight capacity limits specified by manufacturers for equipment and machinery:
    • Bucket Truck: 350-pound manufacturers maximum load capacity
    • Ladders: 300-pound manufacturers maximum load capacity

Vehicle Maintenance and Travel:

  • Maintains vehicle/equipment pre-op/post-op to be prepared to perform required duties
  • Maintains a clean driving record as defined by the current fleet insurance underwriter
  • Spends a significant portion of the workday traveling in a vehicle visiting various locations and spending time both indoors and outdoors including businesses and/or residents depending on the nature of the job
  • May be required to work overtime, after hours, on weekends, for emergencies, or be on-call as needed to ensure work is completed

Safety Awareness and Compliance:

  • Observes hazards and reports any concerns or accidents to a supervisor or safety professional; participates in the investigation process as needed
  • Understands, completes, and signs off all pre-job safety planning tools at the start and end of the shift; completes all required safety-related paperwork
  • Understands and responds appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (e.g., back-up alarms, smell of smoke, fumes, odors, different colored warning tags, warning sirens)
  • Upholds a secure work environment by adhering to regulations, procedures, and company policies, ensuring safety standards are consistently maintained

Lead Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to team procedures and guidelines, as well as policies outlined in the Race Communications Employee Handbook.
  • Provides support in identifying training needs and supports professional development initiatives to enhance team skills and performance. Helps onboard and mentor new team members to ensure they are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to perform their roles safely and effectively.
  • Provides support to team members on various team matters, ensuring alignment with organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Collaborates with team members to maintain a positive work environment by fostering open communication, addressing minor conflicts, and escalating issues as needed.
  • Helps ensure team members have the tools and resources needed to succeed, assisting in tracking progress toward goals and providing status updates as requested.
  • Assists in maintaining compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, ensuring team alignment with organizational standards.
  • This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities. The Lead may assist in tasks related to supervision on behalf of the reporting supervisor or manager on duty, such as coordinating task assignments, timing of shift breaks, validating mid-level transactions, and escalating disciplinary and performance matters.
